War Child UK, the charity that protects, educates and stands up for the rights of children caught up in war would like to send a massive thank you to the UK gaming community for their support in making 2020 an undeniable fundraising success story.
The charity’s most recent campaign, Armistice, took place earlier this month – and in addition to a peace-promoting Steam sale, the charity partnered with Devolver Digital and Mediatonic to host an epic Fall Guys fundraising streaming extravaganza.
The event saw content creators of all sizes gather to celebrate one of the most exciting, original and non-violent games of the year, all while raising funds to support children and their families affected by war in Afghanistan as part of War Child’s ‘Torn from Home’ appeal. Furthermore, UK tax payer donations were doubled by the UK government through Aid Match, making the generosity of the public go even further. All donations up until the 18 February 2020 will continue to be matched by the UK government, and will be used to increase access to education and business skills training for children, as well as help parents and caregivers to find local sustainable work to help keep families in Afghanistan together.
War Child has specific support programs and initiatives in place to help children around topics such as:
- Education, including providing remote learning and catch-up learning when schools are closed/destroyed.
- Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and Recovery.
- Reunification of families when children are lost or trafficked.
- Reintegration of children who have been associated with armed groups (as child soldiers, forced labour, or wives).
The gaming community, along with Mediatonic, Devolver and the other participating studios and streamers have all gone the extra mile to support this live-changing initiative. Every penny raised really does make a difference.
You play, so every child can.
