Black Ops 4 is a better 3-in-1 coffee than my usual.
Call of Duty is an evolving franchise, it goes from basic multiplayer into something exhilarating like the new battle royale mode. Fancy splitting heads open in zombie mode? Go right ahead! Treyarch made a huge gamble and it paid-off ten-fold. Removing the single-player campaign and pushing out more game modes like Heist which is honestly my personal favorite and Blackout as it pits you against multiple people in a firefight to the top!
The good old days mixed in with the new.
Without a single-player campaign to get into, the dudes are going to be dropping in multiplayer as soon as they’re able. With tons of modes to get into either casually or seriously?! Be it the old game modes and maps we all love or the new additions to keep things fresh, the undeniable star of Black Ops 4 is the new Blackout mode. Having the largest map in Call of Duty history sporting all the iconic maps mixed in one big package is a treat. Drop in, scavenge, and start a firefight! It’s as simple as dabbing in instant coffee in hot water and offers an exhilarating experience from start to finish. Let loose a barrage of bullets and you’ll most likely attract too much attention to other bystanders. Run in the open and you’ll drop dead at a moment’s notice. It’s the kind of risk and reward for plays when only one life rules all that could get you that win. You can either play solo, duo or quad each having their own advantages and disadvantages. Queuing solo means that quad bike you just found might not be the best idea even more so on a boat. But having a squad with you on a truck or helicopter however is probably the most fun thing to do with other people other than going on a killing spree.
Zombie mode is there too you know!
While I can’t say I’m a big fan of zombies, and seriously who would? They bite you without warning, lunge at you at a moment’s notice and skins you alive once you’re down. Killing them in hordes however is a fun-filled experience. Running from one map to the other with your chosen character in a gladiator arena filled with zombie people and even effing tigers!!! Along with fire traps and other contraptions to help you survive is like a match made in heaven. Discover hidden secrets and Easter eggs along the way which just gives you all that sweet loot and OP weapons.
Tweak it and twerk it all around!
Our traditional multiplayer has been tweaked significantly. From the self-regenerating health now comes a manually-applied stimshot with a short cooldown. The higher health and a viewable HP bar is also there for you to see. It goes without saying that the gunfights will take longer and elbow jabs require more nudges. Specialists… you either like them or hate them. Unlike traditional shooters, having a specialist is like saying it’s a hero-shooter now. And I must agree, they sport their own set of unique skills and abilities which changes how a certain player approaches encounters. Ruin would jump at you with a grappling hook and dive with a gravity spike while Battery can shoot grenades at you from windows and other tiny openings. There’s never a dull moment in multiplayer unless your teammates steals your favorite specialist from you!
Le Verdict
It’s an awesome game despite hugging the trends of hero shooters and battle royale. If you’re someone coming back to the Call of Duty scene it can be unrecognizable due to the amount of stuffs that changed and got added. Unlocking secret camos for your favorite guns take time yet feels worth it when it evolves into something crazy the more kills you get. Hidden Easter eggs also bear some weight as you get cool stuffs to help in the zombie-killing journey. The single-player campaign was a sacrifice that was well-worth it. Blackout is in fact the best battle royale experience in my eyes. The direction of sound can be identified so even the footsteps of enemy players from one floor above can be distinguished from your own. Even the weapon fire sound effects can also be a weapon to know where gunfights are taking place especially on Blackout.
