All Zombies Must Die! Scorepocalypse is a standalone expansion pack to All Zombies Must Die! released by doublesix studios. It’s a fantastic arcade shooter style game that has you scrambling around for as many points and multipliers as possible before dying.
Players step into the boots of McJagger, a marine whose mission is to wipe out the masses of zombie hordes in each level whilst putting as many points on the leader board as humanely possible (oh and save the annoyingly stupid civilians that he meets along the way). The locations in this game include the Town Square, Shopping Mall, Suburbia, Military Base and the Graveyard.
There are large varieties of zombies that you encounter – from the slow, stupid “walkers” to the much faster “jogger” zombies, as well as “police” and “army” zombies that are equipped with assault rifles. Oh, and the odd exploding zombie can also be found lurking around corners. The enemies are easy enough to handle in small groups, but as the number of the increases, trying to take down the sheer mass of zombies thrown at you is quite a task and you WILL find yourself restarting a level over and over and over again.
Slaughtering all these zombies requires some decent weapons and thankfully, McJagger has an arsenal of guns and melee weapons that can be upgraded with parts found in different areas of each level – you can create some not-so-conventional weapons such as a toxic shotgun or a fire revolver. There are also two new weapons introduced to this game in the franchise: the Mini-gun and the Rocket Launcher, both of which pack quite the punch!
Now for the scoring. The whole point of the game is to get the highest score possible, how do you do it? Well, your score is based on a combination of two multipliers, one increases as you complete quests and levels and appear as you play, the other is based on how many environmental modifiers you apply – this involves using fire, shock, sonic and radiation as well as the environment itself, to your advantage to gain the highest score possible.
The only gripe I had with this game is that there is still no online co-op! There is the option of local co-op if you feel like playing with a friend, but sharing a keyboard in such a frantic shooter ends up being problematic – and having four people sitting around a computer desk ended up being a bit too close for comfort!
All Zombies Must Die! Scorepocalypse is probably not a game that you will play for hours on end, nor does it bring anything unique to the table in terms of how arcade shooters are played. However, it IS an enjoyable experience and trying to wipe out endless waves of zombies to rack up your score is a pretty good incentive to keep coming back and replaying the game! If you want a frantic, fast paced, FUN little arcade game, this is a must have.
