Indie developer AttritoM7 Productions and publisher IZilla Games have officially launched BLACKWOOD: Act 1 on Steam, introducing players to a dark, cinematic single-player story set in 2012 New York.
Players take on the role of Anton, a man living a dangerous double life. During the day, he runs what appears to be an ordinary DVD store, while at night he becomes a ruthless assassin.
BLACKWOOD combines cinematic storytelling with grounded combat, brutal takedowns and responsive gunplay, with players expected to carefully prepare for encounters and manage their ammunition as they work their way through Anton’s violent life after dark.
One Purchase, Three Acts
Although only Act 1 is available at launch, BLACKWOOD is being developed as a three-act experience. The important part is that players who purchase the game do not need to buy the remaining acts separately.
Acts 2 and 3 are included with the initial purchase and will be released as free updates for existing owners.
Act 1 launches today, September 16, 2026, priced at $24.99 USD / €24.99 EUR / £23.49 GBP. The price will increase as the later acts are released.
- Act 1: September 16, 2026 – $24.99 / €24.99 / £23.49
- Act 2: March 2027 – $29.99 / €24.99 / £23.49
- Act 3: September 2027 – $34.99 / €34.99 / £33.49
Players purchasing BLACKWOOD during Act 1 will therefore receive Acts 2 and 3 when they release without having to pay for them again.
Act 1 Offers 6+ Hours of Gameplay
The first act contains four main story missions, alongside side missions and additional content, with the developer estimating more than six hours of gameplay.
Players who spend additional time with BLACKWOOD’s store management and simulation elements can expect to get more time out of Act 1 than the core six-hour figure.
BLACKWOOD is designed as a focused, linear single-player experience rather than an open-world game. The story is built around carefully designed encounters, cinematic presentation and Anton’s increasingly dangerous double life.
The planned structure currently consists of four main missions in Act 1, four in Act 2 and five in Act 3, with each act also featuring side missions and additional content. Act 3 includes an additional main mission to accommodate an alternate ending.
Future Updates Will Add More Content
The three major acts form the foundation of BLACKWOOD, but development isn’t stopping once the main story updates arrive.
Future updates can introduce additional side missions, collectibles, achievements, takedowns, weapons and enemy variations, alongside other content where appropriate. Patches will also continue to address bugs, technical problems and other improvements as development progresses.
Optional Supporter Edition
Players looking to support the development of BLACKWOOD can also purchase the optional Supporter Edition for $5.00 / €5.00 / £4.49.
The Supporter Edition includes an exclusive cosmetic for Anton, an exclusive handgun, $5,000 Dirty Cash and $500 Clean Cash.
Act 2 and Act 3 Release Dates
Following today’s launch, development will continue on the remaining two acts. Act 2 is currently planned for March 2027, with Act 3 scheduled for September 2027.
These are the developer’s current development targets, meaning release plans could change as development continues.
For now, the story begins with Act 1, giving players their first look at Anton’s life as a DVD store owner by day and assassin by night, while their purchase also secures access to the two remaining acts when they arrive.
BLACKWOOD: Act 1 is available now on Steam, priced at $24.99 USD / €24.99 EUR / £23.49 GBP.
