The Japanese Incentive DLC for Omerta City of gangsters. Published by Kalypso Media The new DLC for Omerta City of Gangsters brings not only extra campaigns to this gangster management game, but new mechanics, henchmen and weapons. It also brings fire! Bright orange burning, spreading, uncontrollable, fire. Not to mention that it comes along side a patch that introduces new features for owners of the vanilla game, such as numerous improvements to the AI ,new buildings for the sandbox and the fire mechanics from the DLC.
The fire is great fun tactically for closing down melee attackers before they can leap out at you, but it really does go both ways as the fire spreads a bit each round before burning out. To complement the oriental flavour of the new campaign new weapons, including the katana and a useful oriental melee Henchlady to wield it. Also new are machine guns and flame throwers. They are all nicely balanced and have their pros and cons. Machine-guns are great for stopping multiple attackers they are also great at catching your own team that are slightly too close to the firing cone.
Whilst flame throwers will quickly set everything on fire large areas of the floor can become unusable for several rounds with only the most foolhardy high HP mugger or knife-man being willing to run through the fire pit, no doubt whilst yelling cool wet grass. Also added are 5 new buildings for sandbox maps and DLC campaign – Look out, Private Investigator, Security Agency, Hit Squad, Auto Shop. The private investigator’s office can tell you some surprisingly detailed information as to what your gangland opponents are up to and what they own, but also gives details about what they are spending, taking, and doing to gain turf on you. Two new cars are added the sports car and the armoured truck I would expect the armoured truck will make drive byes a great deal safer.
The enemy AI is improved by the DLC they are more aggressive and will use cover better now you will only see this in the DLC and in the sandbox mode. Because it would mess up the balance of the original missions. So do these additions do much to change some of the criticisms leveled at the game? Do they add to the immersion and game play that people felt was a bit lacking in the vanilla game? i think they do quite a bit. The story feels more detailed, it is clearer what you are doing and who you are working for.
Why you bust your chops is better explained, you are the front of a Japanese businessman who may well be yakusa and who due to the war is not allowed to buy property in America. I’m not sure if this will explain why the klu klux klan turn up later as I didn’t think they had much to do with Atlantic city, the Yakusa, or in fact gangsters in general. However, with those pointy headed robes and the fact you have flame throwers and Molotovs you can easily see how they are a gift in terms of fire based fun with the new mechanic. It’s worthwhile having if you own and enjoy the main game and want more I’m giving it a three.
