Cloud gaming is a relatively new concept in the gaming industry, but it has caught on quickly. However, quality issues due to connectivity still play a major hindrance in its mass-scale adoption. According to the numbers presented by InstantCasino.com, 63% of US gamers have admitted to struggling with video quality issues with cloud gaming.
27% of gamers had to stop playing due to video quality
Cloud gaming, also known as game streaming, is a type of service that allows gamers to access games stored in remote servers without the need to locally store them. Cloud Gaming has been in existence for a little over a decade now. During this time, almost all major video game companies have ventured into the domain. Currently, all major gaming subscriptions/passes allow gamers access to cloud gaming. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PlayStation Plus Premium, and Nvidia GeForce Now are some of the examples.
However, the adoption of cloud gaming has been an arduous one, especially for gamers, as this service requires high-speed internet connections. According to survey results published on Statista.com, 63% of US gamers admitted to suffering video quality issues within the last month of their gaming. The survey asked the gamers whether low frame rates or video resolution on cloud gaming were an issue for them during the past month.
A massive 27% of the gamers who took the survey said that they suffered major issues with cloud gaming, and as a result, they were forced to stop playing. A further 36% said they suffered minor issues, not to the extent of switching off while playing on the cloud during the past month. Only 37% of the surveyed gamers said they suffered no issue whatsoever on cloud gaming.
Vyom Chaudhary, an editor at InstantCasino.com, said: “Cloud gaming is the future of gaming. However, it has to first contend with some roadblocks on its way to mass-adoption. It’s quite telling that even in a developed country like the United States, almost two-third of gamers suffer from quality issues on cloud gaming. Furthermore, subscription services including cloud gaming cost a premium and these prices are a deterrent for gamers in some markets.”
