Designed in a way that’s supposed to accommodate for all hand sizes and grip styles, Cooler Master have certainly made a bold claim with one of their latest computer mouse products. The Mizar is a gaming mouse that aims to offer total comfort thanks to an ergonomic design, and contoured mouse body that offers plenty of grip. Thankfully for Cooler Master, they have certainly delivered on their promises, and developed a great mouse that finds the perfect balance between having a gaming, and general desktop mouse identity.
As someone that is used to using a different style of mouse shape, it was surprising how fast I was able to adapt to this new hand placement. Moving over to the Mizar felt natural, and before I knew it I was using the mouse as well as my previous one. The curved body on top works nicely with the palm of the hand, and the sides curve in nicely and offer a nice ridge to place your fingers. Within these areas there is a great rubber material that offers plenty of grip as well as comfort. As far as comfort is concerned, this mouse gets it right, and all the buttons fit in logical areas that don’t require you to stretch your fingers over.
As you would expect from a mouse in 2014, in addition to the standard right click and left click buttons, there is a scroll wheel placed in the centre. This wheel – much like the sides of the mouse, provides plenty of grip with a comfortable material placed over it. Using this mouse wheel was a breeze, and it provided enough accuracy for any need. Placed below this mouse wheel is a set of buttons that can be used to change the sensitivity of the mouse on the fly, and this can come in real useful particularly when gaming. Instead of having to delve into gaming options, being able to increase the sensitivity with a quick button press is a breeze and you’ll be thankful that the feature exists. It also makes setting up the mouse incredibly easy when it’s first plugged in, allowing you to get the right sensitivity feeling straight off the bat in less than a few seconds.
Speaking of additional features, this mouse also has two buttons placed side-by-side on the left side of the mouse that can be mapped to various different commands not only on the desktop, but also within games. They are very practical, and are placed in the most convenient places, meaning that you shouldn’t fumble around when trying to use them. They are very easy to press, and take just as little pressure to work as the mouse click buttons do. If you’ve previously used a mouse without any additional buttons, you may start to wonder how you ever coped without them. They are a very welcome extra function that goes a long way to improve your reaction speed in gaming, and your speed when browsing on the desktop, or on a web page.
It isn’t just a great mouse to use however, as it also looks brilliant too, with an illuminated CM Storm logo shining on the front that can be changed between several different colours. The mouse wheel and sensitivity controls also light up too, adding plenty of charm to what is otherwise a simple black appearance. The mouse cable is also coated in a material too, covering that up nicely and making it blend with the rest of the mouse’s design. Elements such as the LED are tweaked within a specific ‘Mizar Software’ program that can be downloaded from the Cooler Master website, and it’s very intuitive, allowing settings to be easily changed. Also through this software the key mapping can be changed around very easily, as can the more advanced settings such as the DPI level, double click speed, and button response time. Macro’s can also be set up, and even mouse profiles can be made, allowing you to completely adapt the mouse to specific uses if you so wish. It’s a great piece of additional software, and it allows you to easily fine-tune your mouse so that it works best for you.
Once everything is how you like it, you’ll really go to discover how great this mouse really is. While the plastic material used feels a little cheap to the touch, the overall build quality feels fantastic, and the mouse appears to be pretty damn solid. When moving across a surface, the mouse glides with ease and little friction. The under-side of the mouse has some very smooth feet that are more than capable of working with your desk surface, or mouse pad. There is a surprising amount of control that this mouse brings because of all the custom settings you can put in place, but even without these you’ll notice the smooth nature of this device.

The Mizar feels like a great mouse from the very first moment that you use it. Cooler Master have delivered on their promise of creating a very comfortable mouse that works for people no matter their mouse preference. Though it may not have as many additional buttons as other gaming mice out there at the moment, it does come in at the low price of about £30, so it’s a great deal especially for its price range. If you are in need of a new gaming mouse, or even just a mouse with a few additional features, I cannot recommend this mouse enough!
