Are you a fan of deciphering puzzles? Using your noggin’? Or even just a game to pass those many hours of time you have to spare? Then I think I have the perfect solution for you right here. Codecracker, from Lazy dog games is like that of the board game Master Mind, (which you may remember form those younger years) that gets you to solve a hidden sequence of colours.
So simply put, here is how the game functions:
- Your very wise computer and game work together to randomise a combination of colours for you to try to work out. This is not seen on the screen as your next step is as follows…
- … Using the coloured balls you try to figure out what colours are present. There is a key below your chosen sequence which will show you whether you have correctly entered the pattern. Red shows it is not part of the code, orange shows it is present but in the wrong space and green means that is the correct colour and the correct place.
- Once you crack the code or run out of spaces to try and guess it the computer will reveal the pattern and move you on to the next round or ask you to try again.
The UI (user interface) was very easy to understand which I think will be the same for all users of this product. You have the coloured balls which you select from, a green arrow to enter your combination, a red cross to cancel your combination and buttons to take you to the options and help screens. It is always nice to see a nicely laid out game which anyone can use no matter what their computer experiences.
Currently there are three themes to choose from within the game but there should be some more added to the game for free at some point. Currently the themes are:
- Golfing
- Streets
- Original
The game appeals to those who are on all different sorts of puzzle like wave lengths, you just need to change the difficulty you wish to pursue. Can you face the extreme levels or do you need to start off slow? That is all up to you.
Although a small game, I found it very fun to play and as a fan of puzzle games and brain teasers, I did really enjoy myself. The graphics are very colourful with the themes being quite interesting but I do look forward to seeing what other ones they decide to release. The music was interesting but I did find myself choosing the theme based on the more relaxing track (original for me) instead of the actual graphics.
Overall a very good game at a great price, I can see myself getting hours of fun out of the game before braving the more advanced levels, these things take time you know. Defiantly worth looking into if you have time available to get distracted.
