With the recent release of a new Resident Evil series on Netflix and a film that came out recently, it’s safe to say that Resident Evil is on everyone’s minds though thanks to the series maybe not for the right reasons. That’s why when Dead by Daylight released another crossover with the huge franchise, I knew that they couldn’t possibly disappoint seeing as the original pack that came out was a huge success. Dead by Daylight does like to bring crossovers to the game and over the years we have seen some huge Killer and Survivors make their way to the game. Examples would be Pyramid Head from Silent Hill and of course Ghost Face from Scream. So, you might be asking did DBD pluck from the Resident Evil universe and add to their roster? Well, it was none other than Albert Wesker, Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers. These came in the form of the Project W Chapter and made my horror experience with this game go from a jump scare to an all-out horror movie masterpiece.
Project W Chapter
So, this chapter comes with one killer and two survivors these being:
- Killer – Albert Wesker (The Mastermind)
- Survivor – Ada Wong
- Survivor – Rebecca Chambers
Each brings new perks to the table and offer different playstyle for player of the game. Albert is rated as a moderate difficulty Killer but after one or two games with him, I got my head around his kit and found him quite easy to use. He has the personal perks Superior Anatomy, Awakened Awareness and Terminus which are pretty dam cool. He also inflicts an infection onto survivors that they have to use a spray that can be found in chests to heal themselves otherwise they take damage over time.
The two survivors Ada and Rebecca also have their own perks. Ada’s being Wiretap, Reactive Healing and Low Profile which really help you trying to spy on the killer. Ada is a very useful player to have for the survivors as she offers a healing perk that can come in handy when helping other players as well as her wiretap perk which reveals a killer within 14 meters of a generator that you have installed the tap onto. I have used her a number of times when playing with my friends and have found her perks to having saved us a few times. Then finally we have Rebecca who has Better Than New, Reassurance and Hyperfocus. Again, a very useful survivor when it comes to team play. Gives players a speed boost after you have healed them, pauses hook struggling progress when she is within 6 meters of a hooked survivor and finally hyperfocus which when you successfully land a Great on a skill check will increase your success rate at repair generators.
All the new characters that have been added in this chapter I have loved using and think are great additions to the game. The one that I love using the most though is Wesker. As a Killer main having a new toy is always fun and I love his Dash move when he slams people into things, he is truly a mastermind when it comes to getting the job done. When the pack first dropped it was a bit of overkill with the number of killers playing Wesker but he has been balanced a bit now and it has gone back to a steady stream of him as the killer. In most games, I played as a survivor against Wesker I lost but it was still so much fun to go against him and try and survive.
This chapter costs £9.49 at the time I’m writing this review and I have to say I feel like I’m definitely getting my money’s worth as I do love playing with these characters but that’s not all that has come with the Project W Chapter.
We got a Project W Collection which features some classic looks and characters from the series. These being a Legion skin which used the Hunk from the Resident Evil series as an outfit which looks amazing, I might add. Then we got a S.T.A.R.S. Outfit for Wesker, an undercover espionage skin for Ada and then a cowgirl outfit for Rebecca. These were nice additions but not as nice as the Hunk skin. Then we got another skin for Jill Valentine which made her look like Sheva Alomar and a skin for Leon Kennedy which made him look like Carlos Oliveira these were nice outfits and I’m not sure why they didn’t release these as survivors later down the line but it is nice to have them in the game as outfits because you can have more of the Resident Evil characters in Dead by Daylight. Then to finish that pack off we have a S.T.A.R.S. outfit for Jill and a Detective Noir outfit for Leon. These again nice additions and for fans of the series awesome to use in-game.
Then for some reason, we got other survivors cosplaying as you can get a Jill cosplay for Feng and a S.T.A.R.S. Uniform for Felix. There is a lot in the Chapter not going to lie. Most of it is cosmetics but the two survivors and killer are still the selling point for me.
I have recently jumped back onto Dead by Daylight after taking some time off from it. It was nice to come back to it after this Chapter dropped because it helped rekindle the fire and passion, I have for DBD and also made for many hours of memorable and fun game time. They even reworked the original Raccoon City Police Department map which I loved as this map used to be huge but now is very manageable and a homage to the franchise. This DLC pack has definitely restored my faith and love for Resident Evil and I will continue to indulge in all of its gory goodness.
Conclusion
Dead By Daylight has given us more within the Resident Evil universe to help expand are Killer and Survivor roster. The Mastermind “Albert Wesker” is a really fun-to-use and easy-to-master killer, I really enjoyed playing as him as I’m a huge fan of playing the Killers in DBD. I liked the different outfit for him as well and it was nice to see that there was a Hunk skin for Legion players too. The Hunk skin definitely suits Legion and it is my new main skin when playing as this Killer. Not only that but we get Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers coming into the Survivor Roster, each with their own unique perks to help aid your team of survivors in their attempts to escape. Project W did come in a few separate packs which I picked up, you get the main base pack that comes with the killer and two survivors as well as a few outfit packs which when added up do become a bit pricy. I believe that the Project W Chapter is £9.49 on PS5 and then you can purchase the other skins via the store. Though like with almost every game nowadays cosmetics are really an essential pick-up but if you are a huge fan of Resident Evil like myself it is nice to have these different outfits and really adds to the cross-over feel. With all this content dropping on DBD It is safe to say that there is a strong Resident Evil vibe in the game but I’m loving this unless, of course, I’m the one playing the survivor as Albert Wesker (The Mastermind) is truly one horrify and pesky killer to try and escape from. For these reasons I’m happy to give these DLC packs a huge 8 out of 10 and a must for any DBD player and of course you Resident Evil fans.
