devcom, gamescom’s official game developer event received acclaim from the gaming industry for its new two day concept. Opened by a keynote from Cory Barlog, this year’s event has attracted influential professionals from across the industry and has increased the number of visitors significantly. Across the two day event, over 2,000 people from all over the world came to the Congress-Center East of Koelnmesse to attend devcom.
The participants, more than 400 of whom were international journalists, used devcom for networking and for following more than 65 top-class sessions on seven stages. The fact that the devcom organizers were able to establish the conference as a developer event of international importance, was also reflected in the number of international partners, with 58 percent more companies than in the previous year supporting the event and exhibiting products. On Monday, the successful second installment of the conference closed with the devcom Indie-Awards, which were awarded for the first time this year.
Another highlight of devcom was the inaugural Women in Games networking event which was used by more than 150 women to exchange experiences and develop relationships with their peers.
Felix Falk, Managing Director of game – the German Games Industry Association and host of gamescom: “After the successful premiere of devcom last year, we were able to evolve the entire event: More top international speakers, additional services for indie developers as well as the focus on two days, has all increased the attractiveness of the event. The notable rise in visitors shows that devcom as developer conference became a must-attend event during gamescom week.”
Hans Ippisch, CEO of Computec Media Group is very pleased: “I’m delighted that the conceptual changes we implemented with our partners, game and Koelnmesse, has had a positive impact, and that we have been able to establish devcom as Europe’s leading developer conference and an integral part of Gamescom and the international events calendar.”
Katharina C. Hamma, Director of Koelnmesse: “The developer event, devcom, has reached new quantitative and qualitative heights this year. The high calibre speakers, exciting talks and discussions, as well as the new networking possibilities offered visitors real added value. devcom was a strong start to gamescom week 2018. We proved that devcom is an important part of gamescom’s development, both in content as well as strategy.”
devcom will offer developers a forum in 2019 as well – on August 18th and 19th, just prior to gamescom 2019.
