Diablo III, Reaper of Soul’s is the long awaited DLC for, you guessed it Diablo III. Bringing a whole bunch of new content, fans will not want to miss this new DLC. Reaper of Souls has several part’s to it, firstly a brand new character in the form of the holy warrior, the Crusader, a whole new act for you to play though that has you pitted against death itself, a whole new game mode that allows you to take on bounties and side quest as well as endlessly randomly generated dungeons for more epic loot, and for those really enthusiastic fan’s a new merchant is available that allows you to change the appearance of you armour and weapons.
First let’s talk about the new act that is introduced in the DLC, taking place straight after the events of the original game, the player is thrust back into the fight against agents of death and reanimated bodies, before finally fighting Death its self. The story it’s self is pretty simple and not something that will have most people griping the edge of their seats, Death want’s to kill everyone, you the hero have to find out why and stop him, about what you would expect for a continuation of the original story. But let’s be honest the main story, is for most people simply a base for them to play off, giving you a loose reason to fight and kill hordes of enemies and in that role the new act excels. Throwing you from a burning city full of undead, to underground burrow reminiscent of some of the original tile sets, a ancient battlefield still fought over by angles and demons, Reaper of Souls bring almost as much variety in its environments as the first 4 acts combined.
Now on the next most anticipated part of the DLC the new playable class the Crusader, a strong holy warrior trained to smite and destroy any that stand in the way of their order, the Crusader uses the resource wrath that is accumulated by hitting enemies with normal attacks, as long as there are enemies to hit, this class should never run out of power. The actual function of the Crusader, seems to be as a crowed control tank, utilising a series of attacks and ability’s that hit in a wide area around the player or hitting though enemies to hurt monsters, and with several stuns dashes and blinds to support allies and very powerful defensive ability’s and runes to tank damage and let allies focus on the DPS. While not doing as much damage as some other classes, a Crusader will fit in with any team, but still be able to wade through the hordes of undead on their own.
For those of you who might think that that’s it for the DLC, you could be more wrong, after completing the story (possibly for the fifth or sixth time) you might wonder what else is there to do in Diablo III, how else can you earn you fantastic gear in order to squeeze a few more number’s on to your Character sheet, well Reaper of Souls introduces the new Adventure mode for you to play. This new game mode opens up the whole map for to play with, allowing you to skip to the fun parts of the dungeons or level including bosses if you really want. Providing the player with side- missions in the form of bounties, which can provide you with powerful weapons and armour for the most time unavailable in the main game. If powerful loot and side-quests aren’t enough to hold you attention, after completing enough missions you gain access to ‘Nephalim Rifts’ that take you to brand new randomly generated dungeons, that host massive amounts of monsters, just waiting for you to try steel their loot, and trust me they really don’t want you getting it.
Now we come to the final part of the Reaper of Souls DLC, this part is properly only going to be used by perfectionists and hardcode fans of Diablo 3, the Mystic, this new NCP will hang around the hub area, waiting for you to come see her. The Mystic’s main ability is to change the appearance of your weapon and armour, as the player trains her up she offer s more and more ways to make you character look fabulous, for a price of course. Now for the Mystic’s ability that will test your nerve and make you play to the gods of gamming, the ability to re-roll a single characteristics on your armour or weapon, telling you the possible outcomes of the roll and then allowing you to choose from one of three new characteristics, but be warned there is the chance of ruining the item you offered up.
Finally let’s make it clear that the Reaper of Souls is not the 2.0 update, the new loot system, level caps, difficulty changes and clan system do not require this DLC, Reaper of Souls includes the new act, character NCP and game mode. While the DLC does not completely alter the game completely it bring so much new to Diablo III, that it completely revitalises this game, for both casual players and hard-core fans.
