Just in time for Halloween, Greenwood Games has a very special treat in store for horror fans. Alone is the first title exclusively for the Oculus Rift virtual reality goggles and creates an impressive game depth by inserting a horror game in the horror game. This innovative blend of Paranormal Activity meets Inception has already been chosen as one of the finalists for the Oculus Rift VR Jam 2013 and is now looking for more backers on Kickstarter.
Just $ 25,000 will ensure the basic financing of the game, 20 % of the desired funding has been pledged since the start of the campaign. Greenwood Games is asking for more help by November 16th, 2013 at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/928803758/alone-1.
Bryan Cohen from Greenwood Games comments the decision to develop Alone exclusively for Oculus Rift: “I’ve been reading skepticism about the Oculus Rift and hearing a lot of rhetoric about how Virtual Reality failed in the 90’s. To those people I say ‘seeing is believing’. The first time you put on the Rift you’ll just have a deep down feeling of ‘Wow. This is what I’ve been waiting for.’ The future of VR is happening now and the Oculus Rift is making it happen. We knew that we had to invest in this device and the development of Alone was our way of doing that. Building on the foundation of our well-received prototype we’ve expanded Alone into a feature length experience. We’re developing a game that will live up to the standards of seasoned Gamers, and will provide potential Rift buyers with a taste of something new and innovative.”
About the story:
Alone puts players into an empty house at night, sitting on the couch and playing the horror game The Witching Hour. But after the first few minutes of the game, strange things start to happen in the house. Strange noises, which are actually coming from the game on the television, are suddenly audible in the player’s living room, creating a spooky atmosphere. Doomed to motionlessness on the sofa and unable to investigate the dragging noises in the attic or the whispering voices, players are at the mercy of their imagination and growing paranoia.
The 10 minute demo is available for free on the official website at www.greenwoodgames.com or on Kickstarter. Requires the Oculus Rift, Headphones, and an Xbox Gamepad.
