Game of Thrones is set for a brilliant new spin-off, and UK fans will be able to catch it this summer, according to reports.
The prequel entitled House of the Dragon will be aired on HBO, before it gets released on Sky Atlantic on August 22. Produced by George RR Martin, who was the mastermind behind Game of Thrones, the new TV series will have a rather familiar-looking cast.
Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith and Dead Man’s Shoes actor Paddy Considine are among those who will feature in House of the Dragon, which predates Game of Thrones by 200 years.
House of the Dragon was inspired by one of Martin’s other works – Fire and Blood – which is a novel. For those who have been hooked on the Game of Thrones from the very start, then you will probably know that the action centres around the Targaryen family.
Whereas, in the House of the Dragon, this TV show is set 200 years before the main Game of Thrones series, and the outbreak of the ‘Dance of the Dragons’ civil war.
But what can we expect? Well, there will be plenty of action scenes, and perhaps it may be a little less raunchy or graphic compared to the GOT series.
When asked for his thoughts about House of the Dragon, Smith said: “I think it’s really different to the original series to be honest with you. I mean it has to be.
“The original series was its own thing and it was, it was so brilliant and, and sort of left a mark in a way that would be impossible to repeat.
“So, I don’t know. The truth is I haven’t seen any so it’s difficult for me. Essentially, it’s in the same world, it has to take on a slightly different identity.”
Expectations will naturally be high for the House of the Dragon as the Game of Thrones has transcended popular culture in a way that few other TV series have managed to do so. The Game of Thrones exploded onto the small screen back in 2011, and since then, there have been 11 video games that have come out over the past decade or so, attracting throes of fans in the process.
More recently, Game of Thrones has made a seamless transition into the casino arena, with a truly immersive slot that captures all the elements of the TV series at online casinos which have some of the best free spins deals such as LeoVegas.
So, it seems like there will be 10 episodes initially of the House of the Dragon coming to your screen, and Game of Thrones fans will be hoping it doesn’t end on a disappointing note as the GOT series did.
