If you have been following my reviews lately you will know that I have had the opportunity of getting an updated setup, the latest additions being a Xenon 770 Hybrid Gaming Mouse and now the RX85 Gaming keyboard both from Genesis. I have always wanted a mechanical keyboard from the minute I saw my friend use one, I don’t know what it is, and I just love the sound the keys make when you push them in. I know it seems like a silly reason for wanting one but that’s just me. However, when I got my hands on this keyboard I was well impressed with the appearance, design and the added wrist rest that attaches nicely at the bottom of the keyboard. It fits perfectly on my desk and above all finally complete my full setup.
First impressions
The box was a reasonable size and was packed efficiently, the keyboard was held still in the box with polystyrene and the cable was managed by cable ties. On first look, I love the black finish with the red around the rim of the keyboard. When I looked at the bottom of the keyboard I didn’t see any slots for the wrist rest but once I got it out the box I released that it was magnetic which was brilliant because it meant that if I wasn’t using the wrist rest there wasn’t going to be holes in the bottom of my keyboard. I was kind of worried that it might come loose or detach with it being magnetic but touch wood it hasn’t happened yet. It’s a sturdy fit and comes off with ease, this will be super handy just in case I accidentally have the keyboard over the edge of the desk there is no a risk of anything snapping as it will just fall off with the magnet if there is a lot of pressure added to it. Again like the mouse, simply plug it in welcomed you with a light show like Blackpool illuminations, truly amazing. It defiantly makes playing with the room’s lights off more enjoyable when you have these flashing peripherals on your desk.
Loving the light show
I don’t know why but using a mechanical keyboard is so much more fun, exceptionally when you can set up personalised colour schemes and macros to make gaming that little bit easier. Like the Xenon 770 from Genesis, you have to go onto the website to download a program that will help customise macros for your keyboard as well as setting up the RGB lighting display. The program is easy to use and allows you to truly make the keyboard your own with the different styles. I love the knob that controls your volume at the top right of the keyboard, having this function makes it easier to mute music and edit the volume of things mid-game with ease instead of having to access the soundbar at the bottom of the screen. It comes with 20 lighting modes: 8 defaults, as many as 10 dedicated to games and 2 custom options which is fantastic. It also offers hours of comfortable gaming with the wrist rest and adjustable hinges that are at the back of the keyboard, I was playing Call of Duty for five hours straight and didn’t need a break because my wrist hurt. My previous keyboard had comfortability issues but this one is amazing and I love it. A thing I will pick up on though is that this keyboard feels smaller than my last one and when I’m typing quickly or playing games I’ll accidentally hit the wrong keys which have led to throwing grenades by accident and sending messages that are completely spelt wrong. Personally I think this will be fine after I use it a bit more but it was just something I wanted to note in the review. Even though I’m a huge lover of my new keyboard, my girlfriend, not so much, she loves using it herself and says the feel of the keys is perfect but when she is trying to watch TV or go to bed me gaming away and typing to my friends really irritates her and keeps her awake, we both have this issue but for now we have just come to deal with it because it’s so pretty and awesome to use.

Conclusion
Honestly, up until recently I hadn’t seen or heard of the brand Genesis before, whenever I would look into peripherals for my computer it would be Razer, Mad Catz or Logitech. Though, after using the Xenon 770 gaming mouse and the RX85 gaming keyboard, I would say that I’m batting for team Genesis. I’m a huge fan of the RGB lighting, the functionality when it comes to setting up the macros and using the different features on the keyboard. The bold black colour with the red trim is fantastic and really is an eye-pleaser and is highly recommended addition to anyone’s desk. If you like keeping your housemates, family members or partners awake when gaming, colourful lights and hours of comfortable gaming then this keyboard is the one for you. That’s why I’m more than happy to give the RX85 Mechanical Keyboard a score of 9/10.
