GIST 2017, the second edition of Turkey’s new B2B and B2C gaming expo was a huge success for GL Events. After closing its doors on Sunday, February 5th, the organizers had attracted more than 83,000 visitors across the four day event.
“This is a huge success and a giant leap forward for GIST Gaming Istanbul. Attendee numbers grew by more than 60 %,” stated Cevher Eryürek, Director GIST at GL Events. “People started queuing from the first minute, with all of our halls reaching capacity during the event. Clearly, increased number of exhibitors from all over the world, and our extremely strong media presence attracted so many additional B2C and B2B visitors. For 2018, we have very clear plans to grow Gaming Istanbul even further.”

GIST 2017, taking place from February 2nd – 5th, saw Blizzard Entertainment exhibiting for the first time, holding an Overwatch tournament amongst Turkish gamers. Tencent soft-launched its action-packed mobile MOBA Strike of Kings at Gaming Istanbul, featuring one of the biggest booths of the show. As a special initiative, Tencent upgraded all Turkish accounts to premium (all heroes and skins unlocked) for two weeks around GIST 2017. Additionally, Tencent held 5v5 tournaments at GIST for both professional and amateur players, raffling out 120,000 Turkish Lira.
German simulation games specialist Aerosoft presented their upcoming flight simulator game XPlane 11, scheduled for release in March 2017. Turkish distributor Aral represented major industry players such as Microsoft Xbox, Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, Konami, Sega, Namco Bandai, Warner Bros Games, Square Enix, Capcom, and Codemasters. Turkcell, Turkey’s leading mobile phone service provider was a key partner for GIST Gaming Istanbul 2017.
On Wednesday, February 1st, GIST DC took place, attracting approximately 250 industry representatives, listening to speakers such as Kate Edwards from IGDA (“Being ‘Indie’ in the Global Game Market”), Mathias Reichert from Deck 13 (“From Lord of the Fallen to The Surge – How we tried to make a better game with a smaller budget.”), Fasih Sayin from Crytek (“The Future of Interactive Storytelling in VR”), and many more, who shared their experiences in game design, art, marketing, and other areas of game development.
