Ever wanted to mix the pure frustration of Super Meat boy with the 80’s disco visuals of Geometry wars? I didn’t think I did, and I’m still questioning why I need to get the quickest times, on the demo of Hyphen. It’s a simple premise; you play as a spinning stick, get the stick to the end of a maze without touching the sides or obstacle, enjoy the flashing lights and techno music, and enjoy the frustrating game play.
Of course, fans of a very obscure Game Boy Advance launch window game Kuru Kuru Kururin, which has the same premise and almost was the cause of my Gameboy getting broken at a young age, though it doesn’t have the cuteness as Kuru Kuru did. The game is pretty impressive though, winning them some competitions on IndieDB, not surprising when you try the game and realise how addicting it can be.
This demo is pretty short only consisting of 4 levels, but it took me around an hour to beat them all with their top times, they range from very easy, to mercilessly difficult, I wouldn’t want to go back and try them again either. The sound track consists of 3 tracks as well and they do a good job of accompanying the game, but I was humming along with them after the first 20 minutes anyway. So give the Demo a go and see if you can manage to get the best times, and I’m very much looking forward to the full release.
