The worst thing you can do nowadays when you buy a new piece of expensive tech is leave it unprotected. The amount of times that I or my friends have got a new phone and dropped it within the first few days of its purchase is ridiculous, and we always wish we could have prevented it. Only the other day my friend went to put his brand new iPhone 6 in his pocket and missed, leaving it falling in slow motion toward the ground below and shattering the screen. You wouldn’t get a car without insurance, you would let a child run off without supervision, so why let your tech suffer? One of the best ways to prevent damage to your laptops, phones and tablets are by grabbing yourself a nice durable cover that can withstand bumps and knocks.
Inateck are just one of many companies who aim to provide you with some quality covers and sleeves to help protect your gadgets, with one of their more popular items being their MacBook sleeve. They come in various sizes suitable for MacBook Pro Retina’s measuring from 11” to 15.4” however you can fit other models in there; they’ll just be a much tighter fit (and I mean tight). If you find it fits though then you’re on to a winner because these sleeves are designed with high quality materials to give a distinguished look with great durability and functionality. What’s more for all you “save the planet” green peace loving hippies, the MacBook sleeve is completely friendly to the environment having been made with a sustainable synthetic fibre that is both metal-free and plastic-free.
The outer design is made from a high-quality felt that gives it a notable look; it’s not eye-catching that it’ll have everyone staring at it, but those who do see it will think it looks smart and professional. The felt material is also a bonus as it’s thick enough to absorb small bumps and shocks to protect the contents at all times. Additionally to the outside of the sleeve is a small synthetic leather Velcro closure which allows you to seal the sleeve without the worry of laying it down and your MacBook sliding out. The interior is then lined with a flannel material that is mould-proof, wear resisting and as soft as a babies bottom so as not to scratch the contents, making it possibly the perfect design for all your MacBook sleeve needs.
When opening the Velcro fastened flap on the front you’ll uncover the main compartment for where your device will go, and an additional second slot where you can store your tablet or maybe a crossword puzzle book if you’re on a long train journey. Round the rear of the sleeve you’ll locate a further two slots which are perfectly designed for holding earphones, mobiles or wallets. If you’re starting to think “what about my charger though?” well don’t fret, Inateck have that covered to. Using the same felt material that is used for the sleeve with an elasticated cord to keep the pouch closed, it is ideal for tying up and putting your pouch inside or using to carry a mouse.
Now personally as nice as it is to have a freebie like the pouch, the design isn’t as great as the sleeve itself. It looks like something I could’ve put together myself back in High School in my textiles class. In my honest opinion it must have been made with nothing more than excess fabric that Inateck had lying around the manufacturing plant, and so, in a bid not to waste money sewed it together to create a pouch then poked a hole in the flap and tied a small knot in an elasticated cord to pull through the hole and act as a fastener. Though I suppose it doesn’t really matter what it looks like as long as it does the job (if only women thought like that I wouldn’t be sat here single).
So would I recommend this to a friend? Well for £14.99 you can’t go wrong really, it looks good (except the pouch), it has plenty of pockets to let you carry your valuables and it prevents your MacBook and other devices from being scratched or damaged. I’ve seen other sleeves that cost twice this price that are made with far worse designs and less functionality, probably less durable too as the felt really does feel strong and tough as opposed to the padded stretchy nylon ones you find (at least I think they’re nylon) which can wear down quite quickly with a lot of use. Don’t forget as well that by buying one of these you aren’t just protecting your gadgets but protecting the environment too, because not only are the materials synthetic and sustainable but it would appear they don’t waste scraps either.
