It’s that time of year again, brush off your microphones, and get the band together it’s time for Let’s Sing 2023. After playing last year’s title I was over the moon when I saw they were realising another one. Let’s Sing is one of them games that can be pulled out at any family/friend get-together or even if you want a solo jam to yourself to your favourite songs. This year’s song list actually is my favourite compared to last year’s as it has a lot more songs that I love, though this year there are a few difficult ones, so you might want to practise your South Korean and Romanian. The game feels so much more authentic when using the microphones but don’t worry you can also use your Smart Phones just like Let’s Sing 2022. After receiving a copy of the game it was time to take the singing out of the shower and into the living room, who knows this could be the year I nail my true talent, singing…. Though I’m not holding out much hope.
Let’s Sing 2023 doesn’t really have a gripping story because it doesn’t need one. Perform some of your favourite songs with friends or alone in this fun pack game. There are currently 30 tracks on the game with some heavy hitters from Queen, Ed Sheeran and even BTS. This track list was right up my ally this time around and I knew most of the songs available. This game really brings so much enjoyment to myself and my friends as there isn’t anything better than transforming my living room into a concert stage, though I’m not sure if we would sell many tickets even though the game scores us quite generously. Simple pick your track, sync your microphones and let the fun begin.
The game is so much easier to pick up and play. It’s one of those games that you can jump onto for hours or just pick a few songs to sing to. It caters for any singing style I wouldn’t say that I have a great singing voice but am still able to score really well on selected songs. There are some though that I do struggle with but I’m sure with a little more practice I will get my boy band singing voice, just can’t give up the day job just yet.
When you load up a song you simply have to try and sing in time and tune with the notes to score points. If you are able to keep your marker inside the notes, you’ll get max points and get a multiplier bonus. While the song plays you will get the music video playing behind it and the notes will flow from right to left, I enjoy this style of singing games as if it was like traditional karaoke you would just have the lyrics on the screen where with Let’s Sing you get a music video as well.
There are a number of different game modes on offer like Let’s Sing 2022 these being Legend, Classic, Mix Tape 2.0, Jukebox, Feat, World Contest and Let’s Play. Plenty for you to do and each mode adds a slightly different mechanic or feature to help differentiate them from the other modes. My favourites are Classic, Let’s Play and Mix Tape 2.0. There is also the option to play online not just locally which allows you to compete on the worldwide leaderboards and bragging rights locally amongst friends and family.
If you don’t have a microphone it isn’t a problem as long as you have a Smart Phone on stand-by. Simply download the official Let’s Sing app and make sure your phone is on the same wi-fi as your console and you will be able to use this as a stand-in microphone, though personally, I feel that the microphones are better as they seem to pick up your voice better and not have connection issues. A few times when the phone auto-locked while using the app it would either disconnect the microphone or not pick up our singing. Though it didn’t do it all the time which was weird.
Having the music videos play while singing the songs is nice as it gives character to the song rather than just watching words go across the screen. Like with the previous year it does the job. The track list they have this year is defiantly a step up from last year and it went down more of a hit with the friends and family. It was nice to be able to sing Queen – I want to break free as it is one of my favourite songs and it was so funny to watch my friend sing in South Korean while they sang Coldplay X BTS – My Universe. The avatars have returned with different styles as you level up but it’s still sad to see that you aren’t able to customise them. It would be fun to be able to create your own avatar for when you are singing so that you can stand out online and amongst your friends. Currently, there are 16 song packs which I think is a lot and they are £3.99 each but there is a Song Pass for £44.99 that gives you access to all DLC for a cheaper price. It all depends on whether you want all the DLC songs or want to pick out the odd pack here and there.
Let’s Sing 2023 has so much replayability due to it being a music/rhythm game. These types of games will keep on giving as long as you are willing to play them. This one will defiantly be on the to-do list at any party or gathering or if I just want to annoy my other half with my serenading voice. With the variety of game modes and the current track list, there are hours of enjoyment at your fingertips, and as the year goes on and they release more song packs then you can further your list of songs and add to the party. When you add in the fact that there are online leaderboards and challenges it adds in the competitive factor as well as the ability to play for more hours, it gives your friends a chance to rest their voices while you continue the show with the world.
Conclusion
Again another great music/rhythm game, compared to its predecessor I would say it has gotten better and that’s mainly down the track list that they went with for Let’s Sing 2023. With the likes of Pink, Billie Eilish and Avril Lavigne to name a few more artists, you can’t really go wrong. If you are able to pick up the physical copy of the game with the two microphones then you will not regret it as the game is best played with microphones as the phone app doesn’t always seem to register your voice where as the microphones seem to work perfectly. It’s not that bad of a price either as you can pick it up from Amazon for £44.99 on PlayStation 5 which I think is incredible value for money. If you have microphones from previous instalments then you are already sorted unless you want more microphones for the 8 players you can play with. The different game modes offer variety and challenges which is a nice change from the classic mode. Like last year there is a massive amount of DLC song packs but this time they are all currently £3.99 and if you wanted to you can invest in the Song Pass for all the DLC goodness. Let’s Sing 2023 is a great way to lift people’s spirits, increase the fun and get everyone singing along to some great songs. It again could be a contender for your Christmas list as it will go down a treat with everyone on Christmas day or New Years’ eve but whatever the party is Let’s Sing 2023 should defiantly be on the guest list and for those reasons, I’m happy to give this game an 8 out of 10.
