The latest Need for Speed game brings you one of the most wanted features since Most Wanted came out; the ability to take the path to be the most wanted racer or the best law enforcer. As a new driver in the biggest city the series has had so far you’ll drive all over Seacrest County working your way up from the bottom. You can start as a level 1 offender, speeder, or a level 1 cop, cadet, and work towards the level 20 rank of most wanted and ultimate enforcer respectively.
Rising up the ranks is as easy as collecting bounty through racing or shutting down races by taking the racers off the road. There are a number of different race types to earn this bounty. The racers have: race, time trial, duel, hot pursuit, preview and gauntlet; whilst the cops have: rapid response, interceptor, hot pursuit and preview. To make these races even more extreme and fun to play, during hot pursuit races you will be given weapons to use. Racers get to use spike strips, turbo, jammer and EMP whilst the cops get to use spike strips, roadblocks, helicopters and EMP.
Other than just raising your rank in your respective career collecting bounty unlocks more cars for you to use when you reach certain milestones. To make sure you play both careers there are exclusive cars to each career path but all the popular cars which you have come to love are playable by both racers and cops. Unlike with previous games you can’t customise your car, with the exception of choosing what colour paint job you want before the race, but that isn’t so much a problem as your attention will be purely focused on the road rather than your cars look.
Being a racing game most of your time will probably be spent playing online against unknown racers or your friends and Hot Pursuit’s new Autolog system is just what you need to maximise your multi player experience. The Autolog system, similar in look to Facebook, lets you post photos, challenges and messages on your friends and your own walls. In addition to this it will also inform you of updates to the game or any new DLC that becomes available, and for convenience there is also a link to the store to purchase DLC.
