Indie studio encurio publishes their biggest update to date for the viking inspired online survival RPG Valnir Rok today. Besides a complete new combat system the game receives a new netcode, that will highly improve the overall performance for players. To celebrate the changes, Valnir Rok is running a special Streamer PvP tournament on the 13th of December. Players can follow the tournament either via livestream or by joining the servers and cheering on their favourite participant ingame.
Big news for every fan of northern mythology, gory viking legends and survival MMOs. The online sandbox survival RPG Valnir Rok receives a massive update implementing a brand-new combat system. The heavily melee focused system consists of four core moves, which can be used to counter each other. The Base Attack hits the enemy in front of the player with a wide swing, while the Heavy Attack will inflict deep wounds, but needs to be charged first and aimed with precision at the enemies’ head. With the Low and High Block, players can protect themselves from lethal attacks. All of the new core moves can be executed both while standing still and when moving around the enemy, which makes the combat overall more fluent and provides players more variety in maneuvering during a fight. To visually top off the new system the developers have created 15 new combat animations.
The update also includes a new netcode – players will experience a drastically improved performance.
Valnir Rok is celebrating these significant improvements with a special PvP tournament pitting well-known streamers like Sarazar, Gerritkillerine and macke0ne against each other and putting the new combat system to test.
The tournament, which will take place on December 13th at 8pm CET, features a double elimination structure, giving all participants a second chance to stay in the tournament and fight for honour and glory.
Fans can either follow the action via the livestreams or support their favourite streamers by joining the servers and cheering them on ingame, in case they own Valnir Rok on Steam. Although the main event will exclusively feature the streamers, players might have a chance to challenge some of the participants to an individual duel afterwards.
While the tournament focuses on the PvP aspect of the game, Valnir Rok offers a huge variety of gameplay and players will have their hands full ensuring their own survival. New players get washed up at the shore of the island Valnir and need to start gathering resources and crafting their own tools and weapons to fend off the dangerous local fauna. With Valnir Rok being a full-fledged survival game, the search for food is mandatory and the options to go about it are various: players can gather berries, hunt down animals or pillage settlements, but their actions will have consequences.
Adventurous vikings will be able to earn their first coin in the various villages and cities located on Valnir by trading or accepting quests. Later on, players will be able to found their own clans, build cities and fortify them against scavengers. Hostile clans can demonstrate their strength in epic clan wars and ultimately retrieve the enemies’ clan flag as a symbol of their victory.
As soon as armour and fighting skills allow it and the best sword is forged, players can set their sight on epic adventures, exploring twisted labyrinths and fighting mythical beasts such as trolls and dragons. To defeat such legendary creatures, players should team up with their friends and clan mates. Those without backup can always tend to the ingame religion system, pray to the gods, offer a sacrifice and hope for the best.
To provide a look behind the scenes and explain some of the many features of Valnir Rok in more detail, the team of encurio will do a special developer stream at the 12th of December at 6pm CET and on the 15th of December at midnight CET on Twitch, joined by streamers like DariusSlayer.
Valnir Rok is available on Steam in Early Access for 19,99€ / 19,99 USD
