As I finish my Jurassic World Evolution 2 Feathered Pack DLC coverage, Frontier brings out another pack but this time for Planet Zoo in the form of Planet Zoo: Tropical Pack. Park and zoo builder rejoice as Frontier keep on giving. This time with Planet Zoo, we are off to the tropical rainforests from around the world. Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America are the home and the inspiration for the animals and assets we get in the latest pack. I was so excited to dive into this one and uncover its wonders.
New Animals
For us zoo enthusiasts, new DLC packs bring new animals. This time round we’re get five animals that call the tropical rainforests their home. The trailer was a fantastic showcase for them as it gave you a good glimpse at what was on offer with the animals and showed off a lot of the new elements which I couldn’t wait to add to my Zoo. Out of this pack, the ones I was looking forward to the most were the Asian Water Monitor and the Brown-throated Sloth. The fact that the Sloth is a walkthrough exhibit animal allows for them to shine as your guests can get up close and personal. I didn’t think these would have been as good if they were a normal habitat animal so it was a good call on that one Frontier. The Asian Water Monitor was a fantastic addition and I loved the way it swam through the water and interacted with the feeders. I love it when you can make habitats that are for animals that need water as much as land because it allows for further imagination and creativity. You’ll know if a zoo has the Lar Gibbon in as they are incredibly loud. How can something so small make their presents known throughout the zoo. They add to the atmosphere and makes a great and welcoming addition. The Fossa is adorable, even if it is a silent apex predator. There is something about the Fossa that makes them look harmless, though I won’t be fooled by these cat-like carnivores as I don’t fancy being lunch. Finally, we have the Red River Hog, which likes to get stuck in and roll around in the mud. I love making these animals part of my zoos as they bring new personalities and charm to an ever-growing roster of animals.
Habitat Animals:
- Fossa
- Lar Gibbon
- Red River Hog
- Asian Water Monitor
Exhibit Animal:
- Brown-throated Sloth
New Scenery
To go alongside the animals, we have a fantastic 200+ scenery pieces so that you can make your zoos stand out and look the part. The new pieces pay tribute to architecture and traditions native to Southeast Asia. There are a huge variety of pieces that can be made into amazing temples and beautiful jungle foliage that will take your guests from just a zoo to a stunning view. The detailed new multi-part animal statues are epic and depending on how good your creativity is, the number of blueprints you can make is mind-blowing. At first, I was scrolling through them and wondering how I could piece them together, but after about half an hour of gameplay I was building little villages and lush-themed areas that made this one of my favourite packs when it came to the scenery. Sadly, it dethroned the Halloween scenery pieces we got in the Twilight pack.
Campaign Scenario
A DLC pack wouldn’t be complete in Planet Zoo without a new campaign scenario that is set in Bali, Indonesia. We got to reunite with Tiffany and provided a helping hand with her tropical zoo that her dad gifted, lucky for some. Like most scenario modes in these sorts of games, I play through it experience them but mainly find my love in the sandbox mode where I can make more creative zoos. However, I did enjoy this scenario and the setting. It helped flesh out the DLC pack which I think Frontier does a fantastic job with when it comes to a lot of their games, at least the ones I have played anyway. So, for the players that love campaign missions and want to sink their teeth into something new then this DLC pack has you covered yet again.
Conclusion
For £7.99 this Tropical Pack could be yours. In terms of pricing, it is the same as previous packs which is consistent and great. Frontier again has provided another brilliant pack that adds new animals, an enormous amount of scenery pieces, and a charming campaign scenario that is set in a beautiful location. The stars of this pack were the Asian Water Monitor and Sloth, with the Fossa missing out by a small margin. 200+ extra pieces to play with in my zoos is a welcoming addition and allows me to feel like a kid with Lego when I try and build structures and building to make my zoo fit the new theme. I can’t wait to see what comes next with Planet Zoo but as always, I’m eagerly waiting for the news to drop and seeing their trailers that pull you in and build up the hype. For these reasons, I’m giving the Tropical Pack a score of 8 out of 10.
