Now I have been here before reviewing the Mario Style case from Poconic, which you can check out here if you wish.
This is what I said about this case, which I gave 9/10;
“The Mario design is rather eye-catching and Nintendo Fans will love it. The security and safety features added to the case give you peace of mind, well to me it does. The durability and solid construction along with almost perfect stitching adds to the purchase value. There are only a couple of flaws like the smell, and attention to detail, then there is the opportunity to improve by adding a wrist strap and screen protector.”
This time Poconic has sent me an even bigger case, so big it can carry so much more, but as with the Mario version there is some attention to detail issues, but they have taken a lot of our ideas on board and implemented them within this one.
I have got plenty of new games now for my switch, Including Monster Hunter Generations from Capcom, which I am playing too much of when not working or helping Alison run this site. I also have games like Octopath Traveler from Square Enix which is an amazing JRPG and I can not say this louder ” BUY IT”. Then I have Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Tennis Aces, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Rayman Legends Definitive Edition, FIFA 18, Doom, Skyrim, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, Bayonetta 2, South Park and The Fractured But Whole, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection. These are just hard copies, so you can see I need slots to store the games, I also have 2 128GB Micro SD Cards almost full of downloaded games from the Nintendo eShop, but that is not the end of my collection, I have pre-ordered games like Starlink and Diablo 3, two games I can not wait to own and play. The full list of games is huge and I never resell any of my games I like to have a collection, I also prefer to download but file sizes on some of the games out way to costs of buying more SD Cards.
So do I need a case like this, does anyone need a case like this?
Checking it out when it first arrived off Alison, I rather liked the design it looks professional, a case that anyone would carry around with them does not scream “I have a Nintendo Switch inside” like the Mario Case does. When you look at the top of the case the designer has indented the design style of the joy-cons, it gives the case some gaming style, I would say.
There was something out of the blue which came with this case, something that I mentioned in my ‘Mario Case Review‘, they should add a screen protector, and they have this time around amazing. I said this for one simple reason, I feel the switch screen should be protected at all times, from accidental scratching from docking the machine or carrying the switch in a case with other devices. So thumbs up Poconic this was a great addition to your range of cases and should be implemented with all your cases.
So back to the case and opening it up, was I surprised by the amount of room available, the one thing I have an issue with when taking my switch around is having to carry a separate bag with the joy-con controller grip adapter and power supply, with this case, I no longer have to worry about that. Everything fits in between the rubber band netted section of the case, I managed to fit everything with no issues, you can see this in the picture below.
Now would you want to carry around all this stuff? I know I carry around the joy-con controller grip adapter when I go to events with multi-player experiences with friends, but, I never carry around the bulky power adapter, as from what I know the extra power this provides allows the system to output at a higher quality when docked and you are gaming on the TV. I normally take around the phone charger cable with a type-c connection and an std USB to mains adapter which comes with all phones of late, it is lighter and more convenient and there is no need for the extra power that comes with carrying around the switches main power adapter. If there was room to hold the switch dock, that would just be stupid, who would trully carry around the switch dock, I know I would see no need to.
We then have the section where the Nintendo Switch fits in all snuggly, well I was rather worried about this section as there were no straps to hold the switch in place, it is, after all, an expensive piece of equipment. So, first of all, I tried placing it in, but it required some force to actually get it in, the switch actually fits in very snug. I even tipped the case upside down with the switch inside, it did not fall out. Now you might be thinking ‘FORCE‘, it is not a dangerous amount of force and it is no way causes any damage to your precious, but I can tell you now, the switch will be safe.
Just to put your mind at rest here is a video of my putting a little force on the switch to get in snugly in the case.
If you watched the video you would have seen me pull a gray cord which was under the switch, this helps you bring the Nintendo Switch out of the case this is due to it being, ‘snug as a bug in a rug‘. The next thing to talk about is the new way they have chosen to kickstand the switch, check the image below;
This is the first case I have seen a kickstand, that gives you enough room to attach a charger to your switch, no other case including the official case from Nintendo or the Mario Case does this. This is a great idea. The worse thing about the kickstand on the switch is A. it is shit and B. there is no way to charge your device while its set in a kickstand position. When it comes to cases, this is the first one I have seen to incorporate a way to attach a charger to the switch while in a kickstart position and may I say very safely as well, thanks to rubber bands holding the switch in place.
The case interior has a very soft material throughout so there is no way your switch is going to get scratched, the case is also hard wearing and splashproof. There are 12 slots in total to hold 12 games, but you can double up to hold 24 if you have that many games, I know I will soon enough.
There are some refinements that can be done to the finished product, or what I like to call attention to detail see images below;
As you can see from the first image above both top left and bottom right, the elastic has been sewn incorrectly and then from the 2nd image the soft cloth material used throughout the case has not been attached correctly to the hard plastic that has been used to create the kickstand. These are just minor flaws to a good looking case that offers a lot for it asking price of only £14.99 (12.09.2019).
So that’s the case covered, what do you think? you like the look of it, want to purchase it you can grab it from Amazon right here. My final thoughts are simple, a great kickstand that offers a way to charge and play, hard case and splashproof so plenty of protection A screen protector which is a bonus and something I would recommend buying regardless of buying this case or not. There is plenty of storage for cartridges for some time unless you are like me and buy and play plenty of games. You can carry the Switch charger if you want or a mobile charger along with headphones, joy-con grips, the joy-con controller grip adapter and possibly a few other small things, what I don’t know. There is also one other thing I need to mention, everything is wrapped up with a handle on top so you easily carry this case around with you, huzzah someone has done this finally.
