Rayman, Globox (his blue froggy friend), and friends are hanging out together and enjoying a nice, but rather loud, nap. Unfortunately for them, their snoring disturbs an old granny from the Land of the Livid. She seeks her revenge in the form of causing chaos for the world. Calling forth an army of deadly and bizarre creatures, as well as the Darktoons, she manages to cause the Electoons and Nymphs to become captured which starts our heroes on their quest to return the world to normal.
At first Rayman will not have many abilities but you will soon gain more such as hovering, swimming and shrinking which you will need to use often to get to the hidden crates containing the Electoons. These will also help you in collecting Lum to purchase new things.
As always, Rayman is full of colour and life which really makes rushing through each of the crazy stages highly enjoyable; although a tad disappointing as you want to just stand there and look at it for a moment, but you have something chasing you. The crazy amount of parallax layers is what really makes the levels stand out though, as they tons of depth to them. Saying that though, the levels get harder and harder requiring more and more concentration as you proceed right up until the end.
A lot of the levels may seems cliche at first, such as the desert and ice levels, but you soon get proven wrong when you start flying and the screen on a flute, hovering over a desert filled with dijiridoos and dinosaurs carrying drinks trays roam about in the background. And if that was not enough, the game takes a break from being a platromer to let you experience a side scrolling shooter in level such as flying a mosquito while chasing after an airship. Accompanying the levels is an excellent array of quirky and enjoyable background sequences that really do match the pace of the game; some even having references to retro games.
If the stages do get too hard though you can always really on up to 3 friends to come and help you; although Globlox is with you if you are playing single-player. When playing multi-player your friends will play as Globox and two Teenies. Playing with one other friend seems like it would be the more ideal choice as their is a lot moving on the screen at once so it could get quite hectic with four. The game can be a right laugh with other players to as your attacks can just as much hinder them as can they help them.
Game play
Having multi-player features makes the game great to play when you have friends round and with collectibles the game has re-playability factor. The only downfall is that each level seems rather short.
Graphics
The cartoony graphics are amazing and go great with Rayman’s personality. I wish I could stand around in each stage and just look at the environment for longer within being chased.
Sound
The music is brilliant and fit the quick pace of the game really well. I also enjoyed the retro game references.
