Based off of the original Rocketbirds flash game comes Rocketbirds: Hardboiled chicken by Ratloop Asia. The game makes several improvements now it isn’t bound to the limitations that flash gave it and brings some features so things don’t get boring.
You take the role of Hardboiled Chicken, or at least in single player mode you do, who was a chicken experimented on by Putzki. He then gained super strength and speed thanks to the experiments and has set out to take down the Putzki’s oppressed Albatropolis and his totalitarian Penguin regime. Armed with your pistol and jetpack you fly right into the HQ of Putzki, where you are taken down and have to make your way out of the jungle and back on track towards the HQ.
The graphics are very sleek and work extremely well, thanks to being modelled in full 3D. This makes it all the more nicer when your running around very smoothly at 60fps in 720p. At times though it was hard to see where some of the platforms were but once you found them it felt kind of obvious.
An upgrade from the flash version are some new cut scenes, which in reality are very nice and all but the voice acting isn’t what I’d called amazing. You could say that it adds to the comedic value of the game but they aren’t anything special.
More excitingly is the addition of co-op multiplayer through 10 new levels on your mission to save the general’s daugther. Instead of playing as Hardboiled Chicken you get to choose from a range of other chicken comrades with different specialties, such as machine gun specialist.
All in all I would say the game is definitely worth its money, even more so if you have someone to play co-op with, but the game play is quite simplistic and feels as though it should have a little something more.
