Steelseries. You know them, I know them, and it’s safe to assume that most people within gaming culture will have at least heard of them. Creating an array of gaming accessories and computer peripherals, such as keyboards, mice and in this case, headsets, it is hard to browse for peripherals online and not be tempted by one of their products. Then there is Counter Strike. The original Counter Strike was released way back in 2000, when Valve first bought the right to the product, a year before Steelseries was founded. Both have a long standing name and a great reputation within the gaming community, but does the Siberia v2 Counter Strike: Global Offensive live up to these bug names? Well, Counter Strike helped to build eSports, and as Steelseries have stated ‘Steelseries was founded in eSports…we understand and have built this product to help you win.’ So yes, of course the Siberia v2 CS:GO lives up to the big names attached to it. Let’s take a look why.

Firstly, the packaging, I know, not the aspect people want to her about, but hey first impressions count and it’s always nice to have a badass box to store your headset in. Okay, so the headset is very well packaged and the material is of very high quality. The cardboard is very sturdy and features some nice visuals from the game. There is also of course the Counter Strike and Steelseries logo displayed proudly and clearly on the front of the box. There’s the standard transparent plastic window so you can view the headset, it allows you to see most of the product so you can have a good look before you buy. The headset sits snugly within a plastic holder, the front of which is covered in some kind of smooth felt that feels and looks very nice. It’s a good change from the usual plastic we are used to seeing, so kudos to Steelseries for that extra little touch. Overall, the box and presentation of the headset gives a very good impression to potential audiences, this is a package you would want to pick up and read more about.

The quality of the headset is some of the finest I’ve seen in regards to both the materials and sound/mic. The plastic used is very high quality, as is the material used for the cool headstrap (but more on that later) and on the ear cups, which completely drown out any outside noises. It is one of the lightest and comfortable headsets I’ve ever had the pleasure of using – when I first started using the Sv2 CS:GO I was rather worried I’d break it, but nope, don’t mistake the lightness of the headset for fragility, it’s actually really sturdy. Sound quality is nothing short of prestigious. Crisp and clear surround sound, this headset is perfect for first person shooters; of course it is having been created with Counter Strike in mind. Footsteps and gunfire have never sounded so good. Microphone wise, having used this headset often in the past week I’ve had zero complaints from my gaming peers- something I’m just not used to with my previous headsets, so that speaks for itself really. The microphone is as sturdy as the rest of the headset, despite it bending into any position you like. The microphone is retractable, by the way. Did I mention that? It’s brilliant and keeps the mic out of your face when you don’t need it. No matter what position you put it in it will go back into the headset neatly. It fits nicely in there and you can barely notice it at all, in no way does it obscure the design, Always a bonus.

Now, the visual design…this is the fun bit. The headset looks so damn cool. It’s covered in camouflage which looks excellent. The ear cups have camouflage print on them, and above them are attachments connecting them to the rest of the headset – on this is the CS:GO logo surrounded by a grey camouflage pattern that fades out towards the top of the plastic, finishing at the Steelseries logo. The headstrap I mentioned earlier is very cool from both a functional and bisual perspective. The headset has both a headband and a headstrap – the headband is two separate metal structures with rubber on top creative the top of the headset, and the headband is curved and solid but velvet-like on the bottom and cotton on the top. This headband which is also sporting the camouflage pattern and CS:GO logo is a great feature as it is bungee sprung. This means the headset will adjust automatically to the size of the player’s head, so you don’t have to mess around with changing the size of the headset when you put it on or when swapping between players. It automatically sits snugly on your head.

After using this headset I can safely say these are a must have for any serious gamer with a spare £75/$100 – especially if you’re an avid Counter Strike player. Yes, they are expensive but if you’re happy to pay for the quality or have the spare money you can’t go wrong with the Siberia v2 Counter Strike: Global Offensive headset. The design is beautiful, it’s comfortable and has great quality sound in addition to a reliable microphone. Overall, a great addition to the Steelseries range of produces and a welcome addition to the Counter Strike range of products; Counter Strike fans should be licking their lips at this headset.
