Stunlock Studios’ V Rising is an amazing action RPG with a survival twist to it. Simply put, it is like Don’t Starve meets Rust meets Diablo, which makes it unique and incredibly fun to play.
As a weak vampire who just woke up from his slumber, it will be hard to take on enemies, or even other players (if you are on a PVP server) in V Rising. You have to feed on blood, gather resources for your weapons, and build your castle.
There is definitely a lot to do in this game, and if you are new, don’t fret, as we’re here to help you by listing tips and tricks to survive in V Rising. You can also get any gaming necessities from OffGamers here to help with your gameplay.
Find a Suitable Place for your Castle
One of the key aspects of V Rising is that players can build their own castles, which is basically what you will do 40%-50% of your time in the game.
However, before you build your first castle, it is highly recommended to check if the place is a suitable location. A good place to build your castle depends on the area and if you can expand your borders easily.
It is not as easy as it sounds especially if you are a new player. Veteran players probably got most of the good spots already, and you do not want to get near them especially in PVP since they may loot your castles. They are more prepared and more powerful than you after all.
Gather Everything and Build Several Craft Stations
In V Rising, you do not progress as you slay and feed on your enemies, but instead, you progress by crafting better weapons and armours. Your level is dependent on what your weapons and armour gear levels are. This emphasizes that you have to gather resources a lot to be a dominating force in this game.
There are also speciality weapons to gather more resources faster such as an axe for trees, and mace for stones. You can also feed on the ‘Worker’ blood type to be able to gather more resources.
Once you have gathered many resources, and you have a decently sized castle or borders, it is highly recommended to create more than one crafting station (sawmill, grinder, etc.). This enables you to produce more resources, especially for castle building as it may take you hours to build your first castle.
Blood Pool/Quality and Blood Types
As a vampire, feeding on blood is necessary, and you can feed on blood once an enemy has less than or around 20% of his life. The twist on V Rising, however, is that it wants players not to blindly feed just for the sake of it by having different blood types and having levels as well as various blood qualities.
Currently, there are five blood types:
- Creature
- Brute
- Rogue
- Warrior
- Worker
Each blood type has up to 5 levels of blood quality, and the higher the blood quality, the better perks/passive buffs it will give you that are unique for its blood type. For example, a worker blood type that is level 3 will give you buffs on the number of resources you can gather and increase your speed if you are on a mount.
On the other hand, a level 3 brute will give you Life leech and higher attack speed, which is obviously good for fighting several enemies at once.
Take time to check which enemy has a higher blood quality and if what you are planning to do is in line with its blood type buffs.
Moreover, you can use blood to heal yourself and others, but once your blood pool is depleted, you must feed on blood again. It takes time for the blood pool to deplete, especially if you are not using a blood mend. It does kind of suck once you manage to feed on a level 5 blood quality, and it goes away once your blood pool is depleted.
Hunt the V Blood Carriers
Once you build your Blood Altar, you can now track the blood of the bosses in the game. If you want to get more vampiric skills, then you have to feed on their blood.
Take note of the level before fighting any of them. Of course, the game does not let you track a boss that has a significantly higher level than you are, but the bosses in your tier are challenging as well. Each boss will unlock a new skill that you can use, but they will also provide you with necessary recipes to progress in the game, which you can also use to build your castle.
Bonus tips: Before dealing with the bosses, make sure you kill the minions around them since it may go south real fast once all of them attack you. There is also a Blood Moon event; which is a special event where you will get some buffs at nighttime. This is a particularly good time to fight bosses because of your buffs.
Always Check the Time and Avoid the Sunlight
There is daytime and nighttime in V Rising, which is very common in survival games. However, as a vampire, you cannot wander in the sunlight unless you want to turn to ashes. As a workaround, you can go hide in the shades of the trees as you journey from one point to another.
It can be tricky especially if you are attacking an enemy or if they spot you. I highly suggest avoiding confrontation during the daytime since the sun will always be against you. Take this time to gather resources and craft items in your castle instead.
Constantly check the time so you will know when the sun will rise. This will help you know when you can take it easy or go on a rampage in a bandit camp or to a boss fight.
If you are in your castle building and there is sunlight, you may want to utilize Mist Braziers, they basically block off the sun which is really helpful early in the game.
Mount, Wolf Form, Waygates, Caves
For our last tip, the V Rising map is huge, and there are certain shortcuts or ways to make you travel quickly.
First is using a mount if you manage to find a horse. Each horse has different attributes on max speed and acceleration, etc. They are fast and they are pretty tough, they do not get killed easily. They are timed though, meaning you have to give them a Water-filled Canteen, which acts as fuel for them. Otherwise, they will slowly die as they run out of water.
Wolf Form is another way to travel faster from one point to another, and you can get this vampiric skill by defeating the Alpha Wolf (first boss) in the game. It does not deplete your blood pool as well, which is nice.
Waygates are spawn points if you die, but you can also use them to fast travel but with a catch. The catch is you cannot fast travel if you have loots/resources on you. This is actually a good idea because it prevents players from easily reaching their bases.
Lastly, Cave Passages are basically waygates without the catch. It is actually recommended to build your castle near one so you can easily transport your loot to your castle once you are done.
Conclusion
These are our tips and tricks for survival in V Rising. It is a very fun game, and not as tedious as other similar games because of its refreshing features.
However, we highly suggest you play PVE first before setting foot on PVP as you may lose considerable progress when playing the latter.
