When it comes to owning a Nintendo Switch or a Nintendo Switch Lite, you most likely will be looking to purchase a Case to carry your new-found joy around, along with some accessories and games. Well have I got some amazing cases to show off to you now, comes from PDP we have the Poké Ball Travel and Commuter Case along with the Pikachu Travel and Commuter Case.
So first let us take a look at the Poké Ball and Pikachu Deluxe Travel Cases
They look stunning, don’t they? really push the brand of Pokémon I would say. They both have a Rigid EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) external case, which simply means they offer extra durability and protection for your Nintendo Switch. Fun fact EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) is actually used in the military and medical professions, so if they trust it, so can you.
The design on these are exceptional and well thought out, just look at the Pokémon Pikachu version, Grey, Yellow, White and Black, all perfect to represent Pikachu, you even have Pikachu on the front. You can not fault the design choices for the front, you should have no issues falling in love with this case, from the yellow zip to the yellow handle. The thought process in design is Pika Pika.
Then we have the Poké Ball case. more minimalistic in its design choices. We tend to associate a Poké Ball with Red and White with a streak of black, so going to an all-black case is an odd choice. Again PDP has used a Rigid EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) external case, but this time, they have used a material that picks up fingerprints rather easy. After some homework, I have found out that PDP does offer a case that does represent the colours of a Pokeball.
Being a Deluxe case you are expecting a lot for the price but then again the price is only $19.99, which is pretty cheap in all honesty. So what do you get, well first off you get a quick-grip handle with snap closure on the back, that’s the only feature on the outside.
On the inside, we have plenty of storage, an Adjustable Velcro pouch on the top, which allows you to store a pair of earbuds I guess and maybe a screen cleaning cloth and whatever else you can think of, I am lost for ideas. You can hold up to 14 game cartridges, even though I hold 14 games plus MicroSD card readers behind 4 of the games, as I own over 100 eShop games on 4 Micro SDCards, soon to be 5. Next to the game card slots, you can 4place the adapters that turn your Joy-Cons into separate controllers.
Now underneath the game card slot section, there is a velvety feeling hand warmer section, Now I have no idea what that is for apart from a way to protect the screen and maybe warm your hands up.
The case can fit both the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch lite thanks to the use of rubber bumper. Remove them and you can fit your original switch inside comfortably, use them and your Switch lite will be snug as a bug in a rug.
Both the Poké Ball and Pikachu versions of the Deluxe Travel cases offer exactly the same, so it is totally down to your personal preference.
Now let’s take a look at the PDP Pikachu and Poké Ball Commuter Cases
As I said before with the Deluxe Travel cases my comments flow through to these Commuter cases, soi instead of waffling on again I am going to bullet point this time
- Rigid EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) external case
- Well thought out design choices
- Poké Ball Commuter case is more minimalistic
These cases do come in at $29.99 but you can hold a lot more this time around. On the outside, you get a nice handle to help you carry your new case around with all your games and accessories. There is a section on the front that can be unzipped and allow you to store a number of products inside.
Let move to the inside of these cases, and look at the first section which is the bottom, in this section, you can hold up 9 games + MicroSD card Readers behind them As I do. The on top of them you can place your Nintendo Switch Pro Controller or any Controller for the switch and strap it down as you can see from one of the images above. Then we have a pouch that allows you to store items, for me, I like to store a spare power adapter so I can charge the Switch either in the car or out and about.
The top section of the case is where you store your Switch or Switch lite. I was able to store my Switch with the Skull & Co. GripCase, attached, I was not able to do this comfortably with the Deluxe Travel Case, which was a shame. There is a protective partition that you place over the screen of the switch and velcro down. This partition allows you to store another 5 games along with some accessories within the mesh pouch. There is also a place which allows you to store two more joy-cons, you can see that placement in the image above, just under the switch are two straps, this is where you place them.
So that it for these cases, what do you think? well for me, I love them, yes there are some small issues, one being the fingerprint prone design of the Poké Ball Cases, and I have no idea what that hand warmer is for within the Deluxe Travel Cases. There is a load of storage available within both based on their designs, the commuter case does flies off the shelf with what it offers. I love the Pikachu Version more than the Poké Ball version only because I would be constantly cleaning my fingerprints off it. I would have liked if they include some screen protectors only because, the screen is the No1 thing you want to protect all the time. 4
