Gaming is meant to be fun. It’s meant to be enjoyed. You might be playing a lot more than usual due to the coronavirus pandemic, giving you and your family a bit of down time. Playing is great too because it allows you to connect with your friends online and catch up with them. However, it isn’t fun if you’re losing. Call of Duty, Warzone is great because it’s free and allows you to play with your friends. Yet, there is a bit of a learning curve which can be quite hard to master. If you and your friends find yourselves failing at every turn, then these tips can help you master the game. One of the issues is that everyone plays the game slightly differently. You need to take these tips and apply them to your own game. Apply them well and you might just be the lone survivor in the Warzone. Good luck!
Is It Right For You?
If you’re new to action games, or even FPS games, or maybe gaming in general, this might be a step too far. You’ll be playing with pros in many games, or streamers who are near pro. Understand that you’ll lose a lot. If you can cope with this, then great. Otherwise, you might be better off with more sports games, or perhaps thriller games like Uncharted or the Last of Us where you can play single player. The truth is…anyone can get good, you just have to have patience from the outside and realise that it might just take a while.
Know Your Game
Before you get good at a game you need to realise what it is. Call of Duty Warzone is a battle royal. You can either play in teams of 2, 3 or 4. There’s also the option to go it alone in the solo mode. The objective is to be the last one standing. There are usually 150 people, split over however many teams there are depending on team numbers. There’s a wall of gas which comes in as a circle, you need to stay inside the circle to stay safe. Of course, this means you’ll be forced into smaller and smaller zones until there is only one remaining. Throughout the game you’ll need to fight to survive, all the while ensuring you maintain ammunition, good weapons and armour. You can do this by finding money in the game which is used to purchase certain bonuses.
What’s Your Playstyle?
Some like to play defensive, and some offensive. The trick here is to realise that whichever you play, your team needs to be on board. There’s no point pushing by yourself if your whole team is waiting in a house or hotel. You have to be on the same page at all times. Establish how you’re going to play, including your key strategies, and go with it.
Stay In Contact
If you aren’t playing by yourself it is important to be able to communicate with your team. You can use the “ping” system, but it doesn’t always work in certain situations. You can get headsets fairly cheap today, and you’ll need one if you want to play competitively. This can be used to speak to strangers, or your friends through the game or in a party from your console’s dash. Also, having headphones helps hear footsteps better. This is vital because it means you can hear enemies coming and from which direction. This isn’t always easy if the audio comes from your TV or speakers.
Don’t Forget To Practice 1v1
This is immensely important because of the Gulag. The Gulag enables you, if you die, to come back without your team having to spend $4,500. It puts you in a small arena. You only way out is to kill your opponent or capture the middle ground. It’s tough. Especially if you end up with a weapon you’re not used to. This is a great way to practice a 1v1. The enemy will go down a bit quicker here due to no armour. Winning is important, so establish your strategy early on. Some people like to lie in wait, others are aggressive. Just be sure you’re aware of your surroundings. Staying still never works, because they could have a friend on the gantry telling them exactly where you are. Move and stop is the best bet. Don’t be scared to try and capture the middle point too. It usually works really well.
Pick Your Drop Point Early
When your team is in the plane and the map opens up it’s important to pick a drop point early. It’s hard sometimes, especially if you’re indecisive. The longer you wait, the less places you have to drop. Never drop and go back along the air path because you’ll be dropping into a location which has already likely been looted by someone else and it will get you killed. The game assigns a jumpmaster so find somewhere decent and drop. Again, this comes back to your strategy. If you’re aggressive you’ll drop right into a popular area with good loot and fight it out. If you’re defensive you’ll want to drop far out, somewhere with way fewer people dropping in, so that you have time to loot up quickly. Picking earlier just makes it all a lot easier.
Reload Often
It’s so easy to forget about this if you’ve had a firefight, or taken a few pot shots at a helicopter. It means next time you run into an enemy, your weapon won’t have the right amount of bullets in the magazine and you’ll lose because you’ve run out too fast. Get into the habit of loading fast and often. Even in the middle of a firefight. Load before going around a corner, or entering a new building. Keep an eye on the bullet count and make sure you don’t die due to something simple you could have prevented. Easier said than done, especially when you’re in a firefight. Don’t feel down about it. Happens to the pro’s sometimes. Just try to make it a habit early in your warzone career. Similarly, you’ll want to do the same with armour. Ensure that you keep putting it on whenever you’re low, and if you run out make it a priority to find some. You’re at a complete disadvantage if you engage someone with low armour and they aren’t.
Pick The Perfect Loadout
Getting your loadout is a key to victory in the warzone. It means you have the weapons you love, modded up, and with your perks enabled. Your main weapon is completely customizable to suit how you play. First, you need to select it though. If you like clearing houses and playing close quarters, you should go with an SMG. It would be useless (in most cases) doing it with a sniper rifle. These are key decisions you need to make early on. As you gain weapon experience with each gun, you’ll be able to earn better attachments which will make it even deadlier. At this point, you can customize it to suit your micro play style. For example, if you want to engage at extremely long ranges, you’d take a sniper rifle. But if you wanted to shorten the range, you could add a better scope for closer fighting. There are some great examples online for you to try out at the outset, as as you develop you can implement your own strategy.
Try Plunder
If you find battle royale too hard, try a few games of plunder. Basically, the team with the most cash at the end wins. You do this by finding it on the floor and in chests, and also by killing enemies. It’s a faster pace of game with constant respawns, meaning you can practice different strategies and level up your weapon a little faster. It’s not for everyone, but it can be a great break from battle royale and allow you to try out a few different weapons in combat without having to reload battle royale time after time.
Be Careful In Vehicles
Vehicles may seem great in warzone. And at a pinch they can get you from A to B quickly enough. The issue is that they can be easily spotted and easily taken out. If you’re all in the vehicle at once and it’s destroyed then you all die. Simple as that. Things like C4, and launchers are deadly to vehicles. Only use them to move around quickly, and ensure that you check areas first. A really terrible idea is to drive it through downtown or similar areas with a lot of corners and easy to ambush locations. The helicopter is slightly different as it is a bit safer. Just be careful and keep it moving as you’ll be a sitting duck for snipers. If you get a lock on a message, bail fast. A launcher has acquired your position and will soon destroy you. Jump out as soon as you can and ping a nearby safe location to regroup with your team.
