Men of War Vietnam has been published by 1C Company, like the previous versions of Men of War, it is a real time strategy game; this means there will be no base building for you. The in game difficulty on this title has been seriously cranked up beyond control, giving the gamer a challenge beyond belief. The squad you get to command at the start of the level is the only one you will get until you reach the end of the level. This means that once your squad had been blown to pieces you will have to begin again.
This is one of the toughest Men of War releases I have come across. To begin the game the first mission opens with a scene of your squad almost being destroyed by an attacking helicopter. If you cannot move your small squad fast enough into the depths of the jungle, its game over. If you manage to do this and hide them in a good spot, you will only have to deal with about ten units. But do remember that if you lose one or two of your squad members you will have to continue through the map until the end with your remaining guys; this can be extremely tough. There is no tutorial for the game, only a very steep learning curve to acquire through playing. Default camera controls can be found in various ways across the number pad.
Each and every unit has its own inventory to which you will have to manage what weapons to use and carry, what certain type of grenades to have, how much ammo and of course there health. Once you are in battle you will have to take control of your squad or just the individual soldier of your choice. You can hide three in the bushes and proceed with just one, to which I would say would be a suicide mission. The only time I would advise you to proceed with this tactic would be on a few sniper moments. The thick bushes also hide some very deadly opposing forces, so do tread carefully. This can also provide very good cover for your squad, just be aware of whether your men are standing, prone or crouching. The enemies can spot you from very long distances and can fire upon you with the greatest of precision even when you squad is hiding in the bush. This game keeps you on the edge of your seat just waiting for it to end, in another dismal loss. You will need to creep forward very carefully and cautiously, experiment with trial and error. You will most certainly need to save at every moment you manage to do something i.e. kill a guy SAVE continue on. The game does indeed have a few auto saving spots at frequent intervals.
The Maps are very detailed and can give you multiple options of how to defeat your enemies, ranging from taking different positions, using different weapons or just the run up and shoot the hell out of them; normally ending in the bad way, but still you do have the option. Your enemies seem to have to greatest of hearing, once you fire a silenced weapon, they come to you in groups, you will never be out smarted through this game as the enemies always seem to go back to their original patrolling position. Even while there friends are shot in front of them and burning vehicles all around them, they still seem to head back. But be warned your squad isnβt that clever either…. you command them to take position behind a bunker next to an enemy and open fire, only to reveal you have blasted a million holes in the bunker. This ends with your enemy appearing with a smile on his face ready to pop a few rounds of lead in your ass, leading to another restart…. And yet I found this amusing!
Weapons and some special abilities will offer you a greater chance of making it through the game. You will get some squad mates who already come equipped with some decent material, such as SMGs, Sniper rifles, and some big lovely M60s, thus giving you the chance to take down as many enemies as possible.
There are 2 campaigns each holding 5 missions. Each and every campaign will involve plenty of game play action, if not replaying action, once you fail have a re-think and try another scenario to defeat your enemies. The first 5 missions focus on Russian troops and then the second five missions seem to run over the U.S, which every mission being unforgiving. All of the campaign missions can be played through co-op with up to 4 other players. This is the best way to play the game; you will be able to tackle enemies with well coordinated attacks.
The game itself is very, very, very hard and to the newcomer will seem impossible, but with a little practice and some well positioned guys you will manage to conquer this game. Although I do seem to think a tutorial at the beginning would come in very handy as controls can take up to at least an hour to master.
The graphics are very detailed and the sound is just asgood, almost everything can be destroyed.
ALL I CAN SAY TO YOU ALL IS GOOD LUCK, HAVE A CHALLENGE AND DONT GIVE UP.
