From dinosaurs and rollercoasters to the wonders of the zoo, we get to jump back into Planet Zoo with the latest DLC Planet Zoo Arid Animal Pack. This pack offs more goodies for our zoos and gives us animals that call dunes, deserts, and dusty plains their home. I always look forward to Frontiers DLC packs and I was eager to dive into Arid to see how the eight new animals faired and whether they would be a hit on display in my zoo.
New Animals in the Planet Zoo Arid Animal Pack
New animals bring joy and excitement as they bring new life and character to my zoos. The setting for this pack was one that I welcomed and couldn’t wait to put on display. The trailer showed off the new animals but the ones that I wanted to put on display from the get-go were the African Crested Porcupine and the Sand Cat. I also love that we got another exhibit of reptiles and this time it was the desert horned viper.
The exhibit animals are some of my favourites as I am fascinated by snakes, spiders, and all things reptiles, so having another one added to the game was a winner for me. It was nice to see that this pack comes with eight new animals that have been listed below. The last pack came with five animals so of course I would be happier when we get an additional three in this one.
Making the habitats for the new animals is always fun as trying to match their natural habitat is rewarding to watch them thrive in and as a zoo manager nice to see your guest marvel at your creations. Reflecting on the animal’s homes is always a pleasure and when it comes to Planet Zoo making the Habitats is where I spend a lot of my time as I too enjoy going around my Zoo and watching the animals. The joy doesn’t stop with the new animals as they come with all new animations.
It was so cute watching the Sand Cat interact with their enrichment items, it’s made even more cute by the fact that the Sand Cat is one of the smallest species in Planet Zoo but it doesn’t stop there. The Camel will spit at visitors if they get too close which again is a fantastic little detail to add to the animals as it makes them have more character and interaction with the world of the game. I love everything Frontier has done with these eight animals and that wasn’t all we got in this pack.

Campaign Scenario
That’s right we get another Campaign Scenario, this time we are off to the Arabian Desert to help Tiffany Summers build a new zoo on a plot of land that her father had given her. It’s nice to see recurring characters come pack for more Scenarios missions and it worked hand in hand with the DLC packs animals like previous packs do. It’s nice to have these Scenarios in DLC packs as it makes them worth the money.
Jurassic World Evolution 2 does this as well where they release packs with extra missions and it fleshes them out that bit more rather than just dropping new animals on us and leaving it at that. This scenario was fun to play through but with me, I prefer playing Planet Zoos sandbox mode and having the freedom to go wild and not having to worry too much about the small details. Though again, a nice addition to the pack.
Conclusion
For £7.99 this Arid Pack is a must-have for any Planet Zoo owner. The fact that we get eight animals this time around and another exciting campaign scenario offer hours more gameplay to a game that already has enough to offer but keeps on giving. Frontier’s love for Planet Zoo is clearly shown with the DLC packs as they feel like there is so much effort put into them rather than a cash-grab opportunity.
They always deliver when they add new animals that come with new animations and behaviours rather than just recycling previous ones and adding more campaign content allows the player to see the new animals first and then get inspiration for making habitats for the animals when you go into the sandbox mode.
Again, Frontier has provided another fantastic pack that adds my new favourite animals, the Horned Viper and Sand Cat as well as six other lovable addition which rounds off this pack nicely and gives you plenty to sink your time into. The setting for the pack is one that I was waiting on. Some cool animals live in the dunes, deserts, and dusty plains and we got eight of them. I wonder what we will see next but whatever it is I’m sure it will be another incredible pack that any Planet Zoo player will want to play and add to their collection. For these reasons, I’m giving the Arid Pack a score of 8 out of 10.
