Sports fans around the world have been eager to find creative ways to fill the empty hole in their spare time as football and other sports have been suspended. No advantage of playing home games without a crowd
First of all, it is unlikely that professional matches will be played with a crowd on this side of the summer. We will most likely have to wait until next season or maybe even longer before it will be possible to buy tickets for matches again. Without a home crowd to shout “You will never walk alone” or “Ha’way the lads” towards the players, home games will no longer have any major advantage. It is therefore no longer really an advantage to play on your home soil, which can become a problem for some teams as there are always teams who perform better when they have their crowd to support them.

As an example, Liverpool haven’t lost or drawn any games this season on Anfield – after 15 home matches in the 2019/20 season they had 15 wins. Liverpool fans should not be worried though, as the trophy looks very secure for now. However, this home game advantage can mean a lot to teams in the bottom of the league where every point matters in order to survive relegation to the Championship. We will have to see who survives in the premier league once it restarts.
