Champions were crowned in Heroes of the Storm and StarCraft II last night, as top teams and players from across the globe battled it out at IEM Katowice in Poland.
HGC Western Clash
Team Dignitas closed out an epic run at Katowice by defeating Zealots in a nail-biting HGC Western Clash Final. Both teams showed incredible grit throughout the best-of-seven series and headed into the final game tied 3-3. In a match that came down to the final fight, Dignitas prevailed, proving themselves the region’s best Heroes of the Storm team and taking home the lion’s share of a $100,000 USD prize pool.
StarCraft II at IEM Katowice
In the first WCS Global event of the year, Korean player Lee ‘Rogue’ Byung Ryul beat fellow Korean Kim ‘Classic’ Doh Woo in a spectacular Grand Final. Taking the best-of-seven series by a decisive 4-0 score line, the Zerg player—and reigning WCS Global Champion—employed ruthless tactics to dismantle his Protoss opponent and claim an emotional victory. With a huge $400,000 USD prize pool up for grabs, Rogue’s impressive play earned him a handsome $150,000 USD first-place reward.
