- The Division – Ubisoft’s 2016 release revolves around New York as the city’s festive spirit quickly turns tense in the face of adversity. The storyline revolves around a horrifying epidemic as banknotes laced with a virus cause widespread chaos. The gameplay is designed around winter and has matching Christmas decorations for the most part. The resemblance is uncanny!
- Mafia 2 – Designed around a fantasy version of New York, Mafia 2’s Empire Bay teleports players to NYC in the ‘60s. A lot of gangster movies from the era are available for reference and Mafia 2 does a great job of replicating the environment. If you’re a huge fan of olden settings, Mafia 2 should be on your bucket list.
- Prototype – Although not the best game on our list, the designers did a grand job of replicating Manhattan to the tee. Designed around the same principles as Spider-Man 2, gamers had a blast navigating the by-lanes in Prototype. The second part of the storyline saw the city in ruins, which is somewhat hard to watch for people familiar with the landmarks.
- Assassin’s Creed 3 – Assassin’s Creed 3 recreates Manhattan from 1776. Since most of the other titles on this list are from a much newer era, seeing how Ubisoft recreated NYC almost 300 years ago is a visual treat. Some of the common cues include diverse people, traffic snarls of a different kind, and tallish buildings!
- Grand Theft Auto 4 – Perhaps the best representation of New York City, Rockstar Games recreated neighborhoods like a pro. Although the designers added a dash of innovation to keep the players hooked, identifying the city’s landmarks is a cakewalk. From its glitz and glamor to the dark alleyways, Liberty City is NYC’s spiritual cousin.
