There is nothing better than having a good gaming headset when playing with teammates or solo. It helps immerse you in the world of the game when you have that fantastic surround sound and can do clear and crisp call-outs while playing your face-paced shooters or MMOs. I have had a few PC headsets over the years and my previous one was an Alienware one which was brilliant though was on the pricey side. Recently I stubbed across the Edifier G4 TE Headset and wanted to take them for a spin. They’re half the price of the Alienware one and comes with RGB lighting which if you have read my previous reviews on gaming products is a must-have, well for me anyway. I like things that shine and glow. They can be picked up online for a good asking price and they are probably one of the best affordable gaming headsets on the market at the minute.
First impressions
The headset came well packaged and secure with no damage to the box what so ever which is always a good start. When unboxing the headset, I couldn’t get over how comfortable the ear pads felt and couldn’t wait to put them on my head. The one thing that got me was that it didn’t have an audio jack but a USB connector, this is the first headset that I have come across that has this feature. I loved the fact that the Omni-directional microphone was detachable as I don’t always play multiplayer games and to have the option to remove the microphone from the headset was a nice touch. Once I plugged the headset into my computer it was nice to see the RGB effects on the earpieces of the Edifier G4 TE, it wasn’t the best lighting effects that I have seen on gaming gear but it was still a nice added touch.
The cable was a good length and had plenty of slack left in it while I was seated, the controller that controllers the lighting, volume and microphone was conveniently placed and I didn’t have to stretch to reach it, it was in the right place on the cable. When I put the headset on it was so comfortable it was like being hugged by a cloud, not only this put the noise cancellation was amazing. I couldn’t hear anything other than the games audio or the music I was listening too, they are just that good. What I found even more amazing was that when my friend tried them on, I couldn’t hear the audio leaking from the headset, I could only hear it when he was taking them on or off which is fantastic if you play games late at night and don’t want to disturb people or live-in shared accommodation. Though saying that you do run the risk of accidentally speaking louder than you should since you can’t gauge your volume while wearing this headset.
Loving the headset
I can’t get enough of the Edifier G4 TE. While playing games they elevate your experience and people who I play with have commented on how good the microphone quality is. I have tested this out myself using software online and have to say that I’m impressed with the quality too. They are super comfy and sit on your head like a cushion and I can game for long hours while wearing these and experience little to no discomfort. The only thing that bugs me is that I can’t customise or change the RGB lighting, it says that you can on the website but I haven’t been able to find how to do this. I have downloaded the drivers provided off the website and still no luck. I have even looked at other people’s reviews to see if they have shown off how to do it but no luck. To be honest that isn’t a big problem as you don’t buy headsets for the RGB effects, you buy them for the audio and microphone quality which these don’t disappoint on.
When listening to music at max volume or playing loud games the audio does slightly loses its edge but not to the point where it ruins the listening experience you just feel like you have to turn it down to get back to the better quality. While replaying Dead Space the Edifier G4 TE helps add to the atmosphere and not going to lie makes put me on edge, even though I have played the game multiple times in the past and having a good headset that’s audio is so crisp and clear makes every noise and scream send chills down my spine. I’d hate to replay Alien Isolation with these on as I don’t think I would be able to leave the lockers you can hind in due to hearing the Alien every footstep and snarl. Games like Call of Duty and Fortnite benefit from the quality of this headset massively as you can hear footsteps and gunshots so clearly it helps with your gameplay and finding them pesky campers.

Conclusion
In conclusion, if you are in the market for an affordable and comfortable gaming headset then look no further as the Edifier G4 TE 7.1 Surround Sound Headset is the one for you. I have to clarify that this headset is only compatible with PCs and Macs so if you are a console player sadly you lose out. However, if you are an avid PC player then I highly recommend these to you. They have brilliant microphone quality, fantastic audio quality and the best feature of all they have RGB effects… just kidding they are super comfy. You could wear these for streaming, gaming for 6+ hours and not feel any discomfort. For the asking price of £65 off Amazon, you can’t go wrong. The Edifier G4 TE at the moment are my go-to headset for PC gaming and have Dethroned my previous Alienware ones which I have to say I thought were the ones to get, it just goes to show that brands aren’t everything. For these reasons, I’m giving the Edifier G4 TE 7.1 Surround Sound Headset 9 out of 10.
You can purchase the Edifier G4 TE 7.1 Gaming Headset on Amazon for £114.71 (Price based on 08.03.2021) Price may drop and go up, you will also find the headset on sale through other sites.
