Smartphone gaming revenue was estimated at over 63 billion US dollars worldwide in 2020, and forecasts suggest that revenue from the mobile gaming industry will continue to grow, surpassing the 100 billion US dollar mark by 20231.
Apple Arcade – Apple’s very own video game subscription – launched in 2019, although online searches for Apple Arcade have increased 170% in the past year2. There are hundreds of titles available on a single subscription, with new titles being added each month, so users may suffer from a dreaded case of choice paralysis.
If you’re not sure what to play first, Andrew Cartledge, mobile expert at online smartphone retailer, Mobiles.co.uk, has revealed his must play games:
Sneaky Sasquatch
The aim of the game is to explore the world around you and guide Sasquatch through life. You’ll need to sneak around campsites without being detected, steal food from unguarded picnic baskets, go fishing and even disguise yourself in human clothing to progress.
Crossy Road Castle
Crossy Road Castle is the sequel to one of the bestselling mobile games of all time, Crossy Road, and is a family-friendly platformer with a nostalgic arcade feel.
The aim of the game is to ascend the castle and climb as high as you can without losing all three of your lives. If you fail to reach a checkpoint, you’ll be sent right back to the start.
Tangle Tower
If you love solving mysteries, make sure you don’t miss out on Tangle Tower. Beautifully animated and centred around a brilliant narrative, you’ll accompany Detective Grimoire and his assistant Sally to Tangle Tower.
A murder of Freya Fellow has taken place inside the tower and to get to the bottom of the mystery, you’ll need to guide the Detective through each individual room, talking to each suspect along your way. You’ll have a number of logic-based puzzles to solve, and for each puzzle solved correctly, you’ll obtain a new piece of evidence that can help you to finally solve the case.
Grindstone
A thrilling match-three game, you’ll need to slay countless enemies with your sword, loot resources and battle bosses to create huge combos and level up.
The real struggle of Grindstone is knowing when to hold back. The longer the chain of enemies lined up to slay, the bigger the reward – but the longer you wait, the angrier the monsters in front of you will get. If you end a chain next to a not-so-happy monster, you’ll find your points suddenly start to dwindle.
Andrew comments: “It’s interesting to see that searches for Apple Arcade have risen so much in the past year. While some of us may be feeling isolated, there is no better time to give multiplayer games such as Crossy Road Castle a try with your friends, or if you just need a bit of solo downtime, there are hundreds of games to choose from.”
