Arena of Valor today announced an expansion of its esports ecosystem and a new format for its World Cup 2022 competition, which will see AoV teams link up with those of multiplayer battle arena juggernaut, Honor of Kings.
In October 2022, the competitive overhaul of the Arena of Valor World Cup (AWC) competition will see the best players competing under the banner of their respective regions as they vie for money that will be in excess of the $8 million prize pool from 2021. The AWC will retain its 16 group stage slots, however, from 2022, there will be more opportunities for teams around the world to qualify through regional tournaments.
With a global spirit in mind, the AWC will see the best teams from Asia, North America, South America, Middle East, and Europe go head-to-head. For the first time ever, the AWC will also combine teams from both Arena of Valor & Honor of Kings. To ensure a fair, balanced and exciting competition the AWC will use a brand-new esports version using a mixture of heroes from both games.
Arena of Valor’s esports ecosystem expansion also means it will host a new schedule and tournament structure which will provide opportunities at all levels of competition. From local to regional pro leagues, the new system will allow top teams to fight their way up the ladder in hopes of obtaining a slot at the AWC. A full competitive roadmap alongside details on the new leagues as well as the Arena of Valor International Championship will be announced in the next few months.
“As we hit five years of Arena of Valor esports, our expansion of the competitive ecosystem is an ambitious plan for the Arena of Valor World Cup 2022. We are combining Arena of Valor and Honor of Kings for the first time and we look forward to sharing more details on how teams can qualify very soon. The Arena of Valor community and player base is so passionate, and that’s why we wanted to create something that would truly take the competitive experience to a whole new level,” said Bernd Gottsmann, lead of the Global Esports Center at Tencent Games.
AWC has been Arena of Valor’s biggest and most-iconic annual esports tournament since 2018. Early this year, 16 teams from different regions collided at the Arena of Valor World Cup 2021 which saw hundreds of thousands of fans tune in live to watch Talon Esports crowned winners.
