Every Grand Theft Auto game had something special about it. Rockstar Games did a great job with every sequel, so there’s no doubt that they will do the same with the new one. But what do we really know about the new GTA game? There are a lot of speculations and leaks, but none of them are facts. The only certain thing is that it will be set between the ’70s and ’80s. However, we did manage to dig up more than that.
GTA6: Facts, News, and Rumors
It can be quite challenging to get valid information nowadays, especially regarding a hot topic such as GTA 6. From fake trailers to rumours and fake leaks, misinformation is everywhere. But there are things that Rockstar Games employees themselves have confirmed. We’ll share what we’ve learned so far on GTA 6.
The Timeline
The sixth instalment in the series will be set in the 1970s, right around when the hippie revolution started to decline. That’s only a decade before the timeline in GTA Vice City, which was, to no small extent, based on Miami. Nothing much besides that has been discussed in the interviews with Rockstar Games employees.
The Location
As mentioned before, each GTA game drew inspiration from big locations. Places like Las Vegas, San Francisco, New York, etc. Every time they’ve built a location to set the new storyline in, it would be an alternative version of that place.
Nevertheless, the tendency was to keep the same vibe and focus on the mood that those locations were famous for. Although GTA 2 featured something of a dystopian London, Dan Houser himself stated for the Guardian that London wouldn’t be the future location for GTA. It’s safe to say that the story will be primarily set in the USA, being that GTA is, in a way, an American thing.
Gambling and Drugs
The new GTA will definitely still have elements that made it stand out from other open-world games of this type. While we don’t know if you’ll be able to discover brand new online casinos on your in-game phone, it’s safe to say gambling will remain a significant aspect of the gameplay.
In between missions, or whenever you need a massive amount of cash in no time, you’ll probably still be able to hit that jackpot and win big by gambling in GTA 6. That and violence are two features you don’t have to worry about in future GTA games.
The Storyline
Since the developers announced GTA 6, there wasn’t a single hint on what the game will be about. In other words, we still know nothing about the actual storyline. Voice actors jested that CJ will be back, but we know better than to believe such a ruse.
However, the developers did mention one thing – it will resemble Vice City from that drug empire aspect. They also added that they plan to continue providing single-player stories. They had to confirm this as the success and popularity of GTA online isn’t negligible.
Right after GTA 5 was released, the online community started to grow in parallel with the modding and other similar communities. It’s safe to say that mixing online and single-player elements is an exciting concept, and it has already become a part of many hot titles.
Not Coming Out Anytime Soon?
If recent events have taught us anything, it’s that we shouldn’t have high expectations for new games. That goes even for one coming from a well-established game development company such as Rockstar Games. Also, pressuring game developers to rush a game and deliver an unfinished project isn’t in anyone’s interest. So all we can do is sit tight and wait patiently for the new gaming sensation that will be GTA 6.
