As another lockdown looms, you might be wondering what you’re going to do with your weekends and evenings over the next couple of weeks. There’s only so much Netflix you can watch right? It’s also essential to stay connected with people during this time; with those who you live with and those you don’t. So here is a list of games of all varieties that you could play during the lockdown.
Online
Whether you’re on your own and looking for something to play on your phone or you’re on a Zoom call with the family and want something other than a quiz to do, there are plenty of options for games you can play online, and they include:
Bingo
Bingo is a great one you can either play alone or with your family. Bingo is cool, it’s making a comeback, and it’s not just for older people in bingo halls. There are actually loads of celebrities who love Bingo including Vic Reeves, Robbie Williams and even the Queen (okay she’s old) and Prince William. You could either find some materials online or create your own bingo game to play over Zoom. All you need to do is to create bingo cards for everyone which need to include either numbers or if you want to you could play anything, it could be musical bingo, and the cards include song names. Then make sure everyone has a card, so you can email or post these and then when you’re all online, you can be the Bingo caller and shout out the numbers or play the music.
Taskmaster
Have you been watching Task Master on Channel 4? Well, this is something you could do yourself. Either devise some tasks yourself or get the Taskmaster book to help you, but this is really easy to play over Zoom as everyone is in their own houses and have access to plenty of equipment. Challenges could include wearing the most amount of clothes or throwing a tea bag into a cup from the furthest distance. Simple, but a lot of fun.
Video Games
If you’re a video game fan, then you’ll probably have a list of games to keep your entertained over lockdown, however, if you’re looking for a change or are new to video games then give these two a try because they’re sure to keep you entertained.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
This is an enjoyable game which also gives you a great sense of community while you’re stuck inside your house. In the game, you can customise your character and home, and decorate the landscape; however, you like and create your very own island paradise. You have to go around collecting materials to construct everything from furniture to tools. Then you can enjoy a variety of relaxing activities like gardening, fishing, decorating, interacting with charming NPCs. You can have up to eight players on an island, and four residents of the same island can play together simultaneously on a single system. Eight players can play together on one player’s island via online multiplayer or local wireless. You won’t be bored during the lockdown as there is so much to do, there’s lots of going back and forth, and you have to gather materials, make tools, accumulate miles and bells, fish, and visit mystery islands. This game will take months to get through, which will keep you busy and distracted from the isolation.
Minecraft
This is a classic block-building game and one you can pour countless hours of your time into. Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures; you can explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles. You get the choice to either play in creative mode where you create your own world unlimited resources and possibilities or mine deep into the world in survival mode, where you work your way up crafting weapons and armour to fight off monsters. There is something for everyone in this game.
Games To Keep Fit
While it’s good to get out each day and to have some exercise during lockdown it’s also getting a bit cold, and you might want something different than running, and also you might need someone, or something to push you. If this is you then try these games to keep fit.
Ring Fit Adventure
This is a fitness-filled quest that gives you a full-body workout! Use real-life exercises to explore a fantasy adventure world. This means that unlike other workouts you can do by yourself at home, you can make sure that you’re moving effectively, and doing the exercises in the right way.
Board Games
Finally, sometimes it’s good to put the tech away and just go back to the old fashioned ways of enjoying each other’s company and playing some board games.
Catan
This is a fun and easy-to-learn game which won the coveted Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year) award in 1995 and has had worldwide success. Essentially what happens with this board game is that players arrive as settlers on the island of Catan, which has plenty of wood, stone, clay, wheat and sheep. You have to roll the dice to harvest those resources and then make trades with the other players who are your rivals. The aim of the game is to develop your settlements into cities while building roads and hiring brave knights to defend your colony. It’s a lot of fun and definitely one you can play with the family or your housemates.
Talking Tables Escape Room Game
So you can’t go out to play in the actual Escape Room, but you can still have a lot of fun with this board game. The premise is that you’re trapped inside a cinema in the heart of Tokyo, and you must use lateral thinking to escape, but you only have an hour. You’ll be given a sequence of clues and riddles to escape, and you’ll have to work together to solve the puzzle and escape. You could dress up for it and make it into a more physical escape room – what else do you have to do on a Saturday night?
Love Island The Game
If you’ve missed your Love Island fix this summer then perhaps this will fill a hole for you and also give you something fun to do. Being in the Love Island villa is just like being in lockdown and self-isolating, so this game is perfect for playing right now. The game involves a steamy pub quiz, a hot game of charades and some physical challenges—a great one to play with your mates or partner.
