Battle of Vicksburg is a week-long Minecraft event featuring a period-accurate representation of a key city during the American Civil War. Streamers can join the battle starting Nov. 11, 2022 to meet era-appropriate historical figures, play mini-games, and take in the geography and architecture of Vicksburg. All proceeds go to the American Battlefield Trust and their mission to preserve historic sites across the United States.
As part of that initiative, historians and Minecraft builders have come together to create a new digital space—built brick by brick through cross-referencing maps and documents—to facilitate learning about the Civil War.
The Battle of Vicksburg event is the result of a year of development and contributions from more than 30 builders, modelers, and developers. The town is populated with fully voice-acted NPCs, including historical figures like Abraham Lincoln and Mark Twain. Players can casually explore Vicksburg, or they can jump into one of three minigames – target shooting with cannons, racing around steam ships in row boats, or racing on foot through town.
American Battlefield Trust is a nonprofit striving to protect hallowed battlegrounds and educate people on the importance of those historic lands. More than 55,000 acres in 24 states have been saved to date.
Through the innovative use of matching grants, the American Battlefield Trust routinely multiplies every $1 donated by a factor of three or more. The power of your donations will be greatly magnified towards saving battlefields.
Battlefields are outdoor classrooms, teaching young and old about the sacrifices made to secure the precious rights and freedoms we enjoy today.
Streamers with a love for history, Minecraft, and mini-games are welcome to join the Battle of Vicksburg on Nov. 11, 2022. BrandonF, history vlogger, will be the first to go live. Join him at 6pm EST that day!
