Iām sure many of the demographic of this article have all considered the possible wonders of taking the great mythological stories of the ancient Greek gods and goddesses and slamming it head first like road kill into the miracle of Funk music. No? Well do not waste your brain power giving this consideration as Funk of Titans has covered this.
While they sell this as a casual action-adventure; I would put it closer to a rhythm-platforming game. You play as Perseus who is the champion of funk for the purpose of this adventure who must defeat the Titans of Pop, Rock and Rap. You do this by traversing levels and simply jumping and hitting people at the correct time whilst collecting vinyl as currency.
Let me save you some time. This is not a good game. It presumably was not a good game when it arrived on mobile; or after on consoles; or even finally on PC as it usual within the industry. If you bought this in any other of its iterations then nothing will be new to you.
To be fair this review is my attempt to be as objective as possible and personal tastes may vary, and games have been built on simple rhythm foundations and worked. Funk of Titans does not fall into this category.
The largest issue with this game is that it is a port by a company which seems not to care highly about PC (a matter I am still seething over every time I see Arkham Knight on my library.) This game seems to have sold itself carefully to seem like more than it actually is.
This game is not an action or adventure game because the character can only barely be controlled by you. The videos on the steam store page may suggest otherwise but the character runs on their own and you merely jump and attack. I did spend the first ten minutes of playtime checking my controller as there was no mention of this anywhere in the game. This lack of care is rampant across the game down to the most basic pieces of the PC port, as the mouse will not disappear during the gameplay regardless of the fact it has no use.
The game offers some rewards, though they are either used to pad out the game until you have bought a certain weapon or to just add time on the game or to juts waste your one life. To get an item required you have to get to a specific āhero levelā by completing daunting achievements such as jumping 25 times during a level. Some of the items have a pointless mini game attached to them, and acquiring Pegasus in a level adds one of the worst mini games I have ever played; ride a stick-horse toy with a rocket booster collecting vinyl. In the 3 worlds the game pads with grunt fights which, boiled down, are quick time events.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with porting mobile games to PC, however this game has an obvious lack of care shown to it. This game is not worth the fiver it is being sold for. This game is as funky as a rugby club locker room and a miracle the developers actually put time in to actually make this game function.
If you have to get this game go buy it on your phone. For the PC port it gets an unsurprising 0.5. Donāt bother buying it.
