Again, I have sold my soul to Genesis and this time I have not only one but two reviews coming your way. This one will be coving the Thor 300 keyboard, I know what you might be thinking “don’t you already own a keyboard?” even though that may be true I like trying out different keyboards and seeing what they have to offer for gamers. Genesis does a wide range of products and personally, I have liked every single product of theirs that I have gotten my hands-on, so you can’t blame me for wanting to get a hold of more.
First impressions
The Keyboard came well packaged and secure, once I got it out of the box the first thing, I wanted to do was click the keys to hear that sweet mechanical sound. The Thor 300 sounds so nice and a lot better than the other mechanical keyboard I was using. This one sounds more like a typewriter which I prefer. The cable was a nice length and the black finish on the keyboard was amazing. The underside came with anti-slip grips so that when it is being used on a mouse pad it doesn’t move which for any gamer is key, the last thing you want is to be mid-fight and go to press a button then the keyboard move. I noticed that the Thor 300 didn’t come with a volume dial as my previous keyboard had, but you can still turn the volume up and down using the FN command so it’s not the end of the world. If anything, the keyboard looks tidier as it doesn’t have an extension attached to it, it’s just a nice, slick design.
Lighting Video Below (Not full RGB)
The final test for me was to see the backlighting, I knew that it wasn’t the full RGB but the fact that it has Green lighting is a winner for me as Green is one of my favourite colours. Once I plugged it in it didn’t disappoint, the colour was bright and vibrant and looked fantastic. When I looked on the website it said that it had 20 light modes but I didn’t know how to access these. I tried to install drivers or software that might help with this but didn’t get anywhere. I then went and read through the manual that is readily available online and found out you just have to use the FN functions so problem sorted and off I went on my journey with the Thor 300.
Mechanical keyboards rule
Ever since I heard my first Mechanical Keyboard being used, I knew I couldn’t go back to a normal keyboard. There is just something so satisficing about pressing down on the keys and hearing that sweet clicking sound. The Thor 300 like mentioned comes with 20 light modes which 8 of them are dedicated to the most popular online game genres. If you wanted to as well you can create your own light modes because the keyboard allows you to program an additional 2 which I think is pretty cool. If you are playing games that require complicated combos the Thor 300 has you covered with its handy N-Key Rollover Function. This allows you to press multiple keys at the same time but the keyboard will read each stroke correctly allowing you to land that perfect combo every time which is very handy for fighter and rhythm games.
You also have the windows key lock to prevent accidental minimising of games while playing. As mentioned above the cable for the Thor 300 is nice it had a special cable organiser material on it that helps prevent it from getting tangled, its non-slip rubber feet are fantastic and the aluminium casing is a perfect way to finish off the design of this keyboard. The Thor 300 uses Universal Switches, these blue switches make the Thor 300 have that brilliant, distinctive click sound you get with mechanical keyboards but also allow for a smooth typing experience. I love typing on this keyboard as it feels natural, satisfying and just right. The weight behind the keys is amazing and you don’t have to put a lot of pressure on the keys for them to register.

Conclusion
Is the Thor 300 the god of all keyboards? I think it’s a fantastic keyboard for any gamer but there are a few things that are missing that some gamers might like to have on their keyboard that might let it down. I’m more than happy with this keyboard but some people might want the full RGB effects which if that was the case you can buy the other version of the Thor that has this option. I love the colour green so the one colour setting doesn’t bother me and if anything, really sells this keyboard to me. Some people might also love the volume dial and the little extras that other keyboard offer but if you like just basic lighting and a basic keyboard then this is right up your street. The mechanical sound is amazing and I love just how smooth it feels when typing out reviews or while playing games like MMOs and MOBAS. The 20 lighting modes is more than enough for me to enjoy the light show on my desk when I’m playing games at night time in the dark. The problem I have with this keyboard is the problem I have with most Genesis products, it is trying to find them to buy. You always have to look for sellers and normally they aren’t in the UK but other than that the Genesis Thor 300 is a brilliant keyboard with a stylish finish and the Green backlight works well with the overall Black colour of the keyboard and for these reasons, I’m giving the Genesis Thor 300 mechanical keyboard a score of 9 out of 10.
