Earlier this year, Red Bull Racing Esports launched a competition for fans to become the Official Red Bull Racing Esports In-Game Photographer. Prize winners Brian Campbell and Oleg Sadovnikov impressed the Team with their hard work, commitment and passion for gaming photography.
The original competition was set up to find one winner, but both Brian and Oleg performed so well that it seemed right to offer the chance to bring both onboard. The pair have also built up a strong friendship in the short time, despite being on different sides of the world.
Brian lives in Virginia, USA and works in cyber security. He was suspicious when he heard the news. “Someone from the team reached out to tell me I’d won on 1 April. So, I wasn’t sure how to react, I thought it was some cruel April Fool’s Day prank! It’s a great opportunity to have that not many people will get. I only got into in-game photography about two weeks before I saw the competition. I was on a community race team and some of the guys said: ‘we have these replays and we’d like to get some pictures from them.’ So, I thought I’d give it a shot.”
Oleg is a 19-year-old economics student from Minsk, Belarus. A fan of gaming since he was three years old, he comments, “My friend had sent me an article about the competition. I’ve been interested in the Formula One game since the beginning, it has a really good photo mode, so I thought I should try. I still can’t believe that I’m part of the team, it’s absolutely incredible. I sent the images to the team at Red Bull Racing and thought, ‘I can’t win’ and later they posted my shot and I was so excited when I saw it. I’ve always liked the team and what they stand for, and I have a lot of respect for Christian as well.”
