The role-playing game Greedfall was released in 2019 and impressed with its fresh new world. Now it has got its first story DLC. The game was certainly far from being an absolute RPG masterpiece. But it had a few nice approaches and was playfully reminiscent of previous Bioware games like Dragon Age. Here we were able to manage a party of characters, level up our own character, and make decisions that sometimes had more or less impact on the story. In case you would like to make an impact on your own story, you could try visiting Casino Sites and testing out your luck.
The highlight of Greedfall, however, was its game world. Sure, it had magic and monsters, as in dozens of other role-playing games. But while most fantasy games rely on a medieval setting, the world of Greedfall is already in the early 17th century. The big advantage of this: muskets, fencing weapons, and large, stylish hats. A world to return to with pleasure. Even if the game itself has its problems. And now is the perfect excuse to return. Because parallel to the new Gold Edition, the developers also published a first story DLC. We have examined in more detail for you whether this excuse is justified.
What is the DLC about?
The expansion is aimed at all players who have already had large parts of the main game behind them. In order to accept the corresponding task, you must already be able to see the two quest series “Searching for Constantin” and “On the High King’s Trail” in your journal. In case you have already finished the game, just load the last saved game, before the final battle.
Then De Sardet finds an ominous letter in one of his storage chests. The letter comes from Lady Morange from New Sérène, whom you may already know from other quest lines. Here you can find out about a new visitor, Aurélia De Vespe, and her entourage.
This obviously causes astonishment, because, as is the custom with narrow-minded aristocrats from the old empire, families sometimes harbor bitter feuds; such is the case for the De Vespes and the Orsays. So Aurélia’s arrival cannot mean anything good. Although surprisingly she wants to marry Constantin, which was decided by both families, and from here the unraveled intrigue!
The new region
The first major addition to the DLC is the new area. In the extreme northeast of the island, there is now another open region that goes by the catchy name Aidág ol creidaw. Or in our tongue: the flaming blood. The new region is one of the slightly larger areas in the semi-open game world of Greedfall. But it does not make it huge. Here you will find the Aurélias camp, which is also home to a dozen armed musketeers. In addition, explorers can comb through a few caves. But do not expect to find anything out of the ordinary there. The region itself has hardly any geographical features that you would not see anywhere else on the island.
The new opponents
In the new region, players can encounter a new type of enemy. The so-called Egsregatts. They are lion-like beasts who have a few nasty tricks up their sleeves. As with all creatures in Tar Fardee, these big cats come in several varieties. For example, as a poisonous version or particularly large alpha animals. The Egregatts stand out from other monsters in that they like to attack us from the bushes and are invisible for so long. But after the third time at the latest, you have seen through this trick.
On the side of the human opponents, the De Vespes bring a few very nasty, magic-gifted fencing masters with them to the island. In either case, it does not make the fights that much more varied. Especially since we fight almost exclusively against the lions in the new region. As in the main game, the fights on the medium level of difficulty are rather too easy, but at least they are demanding enough that endgame characters should not turn their brains off completely.
The new quest
At the center of the DLC is the new quest line around the De Vespes conspiracy. The task starts out very promising and introduces Aurélia, an initially very exciting character. However, the story can never really pick up speed afterward. E
Although it is an intrigue, we only have to have in-depth conversations with very few people or draw our own conclusions. We get all the answers one by one by running after the quest markers and collecting evidence. Not only does it play out lame at some point, but it also makes the schemers look like absolute amateurs who write all their plans on pieces of paper. As we progress, we can make a few decisions that will affect the finale. However, these are not so much a moral dilemma as the motivation to visit some other places.
Is it worth it?
If you do not necessarily need a special reason to pay a new visit to Greedfall after almost two years, then you don’t really need to spend any money on the DLC. In its sum, the DLC itself actually offers far too little for the price. None of the innovations are really convincing and mostly show Greedfall from its worst. You will most likely not be occupied with the main quest alone for long. If you want, you can complete the DLC in about two hours. Some can also be faster. If you take your time and explore or reload the new region and make other decisions, you might be busy for four hours. It remains to be seen that the developers have at least not forgotten Greedfall. And that’s good. Because the world itself really deserves a successor.
