The Grand finale of Hector Badge of Carnage is an odd one, it isn’t quite as good as the second but it is better than the first and what it does do is create a fitting end to the series. It really gives the series the sort of ending it needs as the game slowly grows more and more climactic, until it reaches its peak and then ends nicely.
After the initial area the rest of the game is set in one long set of areas which you have to visit one by one and then you finally get the map on the way back. The puzzles are all fairly straightforward and since you can go to almost every area once you reach the second part you also can see all the intractable objects. Guessing what will be needed isn’t hard but waiting to use some of them is as there are some really interesting and funny objects to use throughout the game. You do get to play as Lambert again during the first part of the game which is nice but Lambert seems a little less spineless when talking about Hector when you play as him this time around.
Overall
It is a fitting finale to the three part series and although it is quite as good as the second part it does the job just fine. The humour is solid and the puzzles are maybe a little too simple.
Comments
I enjoyed it as the finale but found the plot a little too simplistic to be funny. But on the whole the writing is still as strong as the others but not quite as funny as episode 2. It still won’t change the minds of anyone who didn’t like the previous 2 but if you’re still on the fence about it give it a go if you have a cruel sense of humour. I do look forward to seeing more from Straandlooper and hopefully this won’t be the last we’ve seen of Hector.
