Kalypso Media has unveiled the new story trailer for Tropico 7, offering the first proper look at the game’s campaign and El Presidente’s journey from a humble colonial governor serving the British Crown to the ruler of his own island nation.
Of course, anyone familiar with Tropico will know that El Presidente’s ambitions were never likely to stop at simply being a governor. Players will build and shape their own version of Tropico, deal with rival political factions, issue edicts and make decisions that influence the future of the island.
El Presidente Has a New Rival
The campaign spans five maps and follows El Presidente alongside his loyal advisor Penultimo, while introducing a new nemesis in the form of Victoria Guerra, a determined revolutionary with her own vision for Tropico.
As El Presidente’s influence grows, players will have plenty of opportunities to rewrite history in their favour. That includes putting their own portrait on walls and billboards, erecting statues in their honour and ensuring the history books remember events exactly as they should.
But ruling Tropico will not be straightforward. Political factions can now be summoned to the council, giving players a new way to negotiate, manipulate or simply bulldoze their opposition when it suits them. Elections, speeches and a wide selection of edicts will also shape how El Presidente maintains control.
Terraform Tropico However You Want
Tropico 7 introduces the biggest islands in the series, alongside expanded archipelagos, 10 additional scenarios and more than 20 sandbox maps. A random map generator will also provide further options for players who want to create their own tropical dictatorship from scratch.
The new terraforming system gives El Presidente considerably more control over the landscape. Mountains can be removed, beaches can be created and entirely new islands can be formed, opening up new possibilities for construction and city planning.
Buildings can also be positioned strategically to take advantage of synergy effects, while parks can be freely customised to make use of unused areas and improve the appearance of the island.
Politics, Military and Plenty of Power
Political manoeuvring plays a larger role in Tropico 7, with the council providing a new way to interact with the island’s factions. Foreign affairs and elections will also form part of El Presidente’s daily rule, while landmarks can even be relocated when their benefits are too tempting to ignore.
Military management has also been reworked, giving players more direct control over their units when dealing with rebels and foreign threats.
El Presidente and the presidential palace can be customised with new options, allowing players to give their ruler and headquarters the exact look befitting their particular style of leadership.
