With more than 2.9 million average current viewers and 682 billion minutes watched in the five months of 2021, Twitch continues dominating the game streaming industry. Besides an impressive growth of its fan base, Twitch also witnessed a surge in the number of streamers this year.
According to data presented by 123scommesse.it, the number of active streamers on Twitch hit over nine million in May, a 25% increase in a year.
More than Five Million New Streamers Since the Pandemic Struck
The entire gaming industry exploded last year, as millions of people turned to video games as their number-one at-home entertainment amid the lockdowns. But besides playing more, they also started spending a lot more time watching the gaming titles on the video-sharing platforms, which created a huge space for new streamers.
In January 2020, the number of active streamers on Twitch amounted to over 3.9 million, revealed the Twitch Tracker data. After slipping to 3.7 million in February, this figure soared to around 7.2 million in April and continued rising. By the end of the year, Twitch had 9.2 million active streamers, a massive 175% increase in a year.
However, the year 2021 set a new record, with the number of streamers rising to 9.9 million in January, the highest figure in the platform’s history. Although the number of streamers slipped to over 9 million in the last four months, it still represents a 25% increase in a year. Statistics also show more than five million new streamers started publishing content on Twitch in the last year and a half.
The Number of Twitch Viewers hit an All-time High in May
Today, Twitch offers one of the largest audiences on the internet. Before the pandemic and lockdowns, the popular streaming platform had 1.25 million average current viewers who watched 660 billion minutes of streams in 2019.
Last year, the average number of viewers soared to 2.1 million. Such an impressive user base spent more than one trillion minutes watching Twitch streams in 2020, a 70% increase in a year.
However, 2021 set a new record. The Twitch Tracker data revealed the average number of viewers hit an all-time high in April and May, with more than 3.1 million people tuning in to the platform to watch their favorite streamers and gaming titles.
