Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate Studio have announced that Valheim, their brand new open-world exploration co-op survival game, is now available on Steam Early Access. Whether looking to go at it alone or aided by a team of your most trusted allies, all budding Vikings seeking a challenge of true mythological proportions, can enter the primordial purgatory from today, here.
Valheim is an immense, procedurally-generated world where battle-slain warriors are invited to explore the seemingly peaceful landscapes and oceans, only to discover that they are overrun by the mightiest creatures born of Norse mythology. Valheim’s multiplayer PvE gameplay currently allows up to 10 player co-op, but is best enjoyed with 3-5. A key focus for the Early Access period is to further establish the perfect number of viking settlers.
Players must gather resources, build better, stronger weapons and armour, construct homes and castles, carts and longships, explore intimidating dungeons and set sail in search of new shores, until all of Odin’s enemies are dead – only then will your soul find peace.
Valheim’s beta testing phase occurred in part during the ancient Norse celebration of Dísablót, or ‘The Sacrifice to the Disir’. Then, ritualistic sacrifices and mighty banquets took place to honor the female deities and spirits, such as the Valkyries, in hope they would ensure a bountiful harvest. In the same spirit of celebration, all Vikings who signed up to sacrifice their lives during the beta testing period will soon be rewarded by Iron Gate Studio with exclusive items, which include Odin’s cape, hood and drinking horn.
