Wargaming has announced the launch of The Finest Half Hour, a weekly podcast about the Second World War. Each week, audiences are invited to explore the gut-wrenching decisions of WW2 commanders, the sacrifices of individual soldiers, and the terrifying new weapons of war that changed the battlefield forever. The podcast is the latest in a line of activities by Wargaming over the years, aimed at preserving the important legacy of the Second World War β as well as the individuals and technologies which played their part in it.
Whilst The Finest Half Hour is built upon careful historical research, the Wargaming production team behind the podcast believe that learning about history shouldnβt be a chore for listeners β but should feel like turning the pages of a favourite novel. That is why producers have drawn on storytelling techniques developed for the world of television, movies and video games to make the Second World War come alive.
The Finest Half Hour uses voice acting, sound effects and archival audio to transport listeners to the 1930s and 1940s. Audiences will be taken from the skies above London during the Battle of Britain to the war in the desert at El Alamein. From the massive tank battles on the Eastern front to the hard-fought naval battles at Midway and Guadalcanal, as well asΒ top-secret facilities Los Alamos, PeenemΓΌnde and Bletchley Park.
βHistory isnβt just a list of names and dates,β says historian Tracy Spaight, Wargamingβs Director of Special Projects and series producer, βit is the story of us, our families and the world we live in today. Our goal with the podcast is to tell the stories of those who gave their tomorrow for our today. At Wargaming, weβve always been proud of our ability to bring history to life for audiences, and The Finest Half Hour reflects our ongoing dedication to historical accuracy and storytelling.β
Jim Jaeger, one of the series writers, added
βwe want to bring history alive in way that is accessible to everyone. We want to show the triumph and tragedy of the conflict, the sweeping campaigns and the human moments of individuals caught up in the Second World War. Understanding why so many people were willing to sacrifice so much in the fight against tyranny is as relevant today as it was 80 years ago.”
The podcast has been launched after a summer of exciting announcements for Wargaming β from the 10th anniversary of its flagship title World of Tanks, to World of Tanks Blitz launching on Nintendo Switch.
Audiences can subscribe to The Finest Half Hour on their favourite podcast platformsΒ including Anchor, Spotify, Google Podcast, Apple Podcast and Radio Public. More information can be found here: https://anchor.fm/thefinesthalfhour
