Free League Publishing has announced that the stand-alone tabletop RPG Dragonbane: Trudvang is now live on Kickstarter — and it didn’t take long to make an impact.
The campaign reached full funding within just four minutes of launch, blasting past its initial $25,000 USD goal and exceeding $150,000 in under half an hour.
Built on Free League’s award-winning Dragonbane fantasy RPG system and developed under licence from CMON, the project reintroduces players to the mythic world of Trudvang through four richly illustrated hardback volumes.
A Nordic-Inspired Fantasy World Reborn
Inspired by Nordic mythology, Dragonbane: Trudvang invites players into a realm of shadowed forests, ancient mysteries and wrathful gods. Heroes will confront dreadful beasts, uncover forgotten legends and explore a vast, atmospheric world shaped by myth and fate.
All backers will receive early access to Beta PDFs of the four core books a few months after the campaign concludes, allowing players to begin their adventures well ahead of the official release.
Early backers who pledge for a physical reward within the first 48 hours will also receive an exclusive bonus art print featuring new Core Rulebook cover art by legendary fantasy illustrator Paul Bonner.
What’s Included in Dragonbane: Trudvang
The Kickstarter campaign introduces four premium hardback volumes:
- Dragonbane: Trudvang Core Rulebook – A complete ruleset built on the Dragonbane system, featuring new kin such as Stormlander humans and Korpikalli elves, expanded professions and lifepaths, ranked heroic abilities and distinctive magic wielded by vitner weavers and dimwalkers.
- The World of Trudvang – A richly illustrated exploration of the realm’s history, lands and faiths, covering regions including the Stormlands, Westmark, Soj and the Great Ice Plains.
- Jorgi’s Bestiary – A fully adapted monster compendium bringing back legendary creatures such as brotbeast, byse, hrimtursir and the ancient yggdras.
- The Saga of the Black Star – A revised four-part epic campaign published in English for the first time, sending heroes across Trudvang to confront a looming cosmic threat.
Collector’s Editions and Exclusive Add-Ons
The campaign also includes a high-quality cloth map of Trudvang illustrated by fantasy artist Francesca Baerald, available as a separate add-on or bundled within select tiers.
Collector’s Editions of all four books will be offered exclusively through Kickstarter and will not be printed again, making the campaign the only opportunity to secure these premium versions.
A World With Deep Roots
The Trudvang setting was originally created by Theodore Bergqvist and Magnus Malmberg of Riotminds as a campaign world for the Swedish edition of Dragonbane, known locally as Drakar och Demoner, in the early 2000s. The setting later evolved into its own standalone RPG, Trudvang Chronicles, as well as the board game Trudvang Legends published by CMON.
Writing, editing and adapting Trudvang to the modern Dragonbane system is being led by veteran RPG writer Magnus Seter, whose credits include Cyberpunk 2020, Mutant Chronicles, Forbidden Lands and Dragonbane.
In the preface to the new edition, Theodore Bergqvist shared his thoughts on the revival:
“When we heard that Free League had licensed Trudvang from CMON, and that Magnus Seter would be leading the work on this new edition, we were naturally delighted. Most of all because the world gets to live on – but also because Trudvang has, in many ways, found its way home again.”
With explosive early momentum and strong community backing, Dragonbane: Trudvang is already shaping up to be one of Free League’s most anticipated fantasy projects to date.
