NIS America, Inc. has announced GOBBLE, a brand-new hand-painted 2D platforming adventure coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and PC next year.
Alongside the announcement, NIS America has released the first trailer for GOBBLE, offering players their first look at its unusual hand-painted world, distinctive visual style and bizarre central character.
Explore a Hand-Painted World in GOBBLE
GOBBLE takes players into a colourful world brought to life through a unique hand-painted art style. The game’s environments are filled with movement and atmosphere, with its sound effects playing an important role in how players experience the world.
Players take control of a character whose family has gone missing, setting them off on a journey through a dangerous world to bring them home.
Along the way, players will be joined by Scythariel, a demonic bird with a rather unusual ability.
Turn a Demonic Bird Into a Scythe
Scythariel can transform into a powerful scythe, giving players a weapon capable of cutting down enemies and, somewhat unusually, eating them.
Defeated enemies aren’t simply left behind, either. Their corpses can be consumed to fuel unique abilities, providing players with additional tools for dealing with obstacles and navigating the game’s dangerous environments.
Players will need to make use of these abilities to cross treacherous chasms, discover hidden secrets and continue their search for their missing family.
You Are What You Eat
One of GOBBLE‘s central gameplay mechanics revolves around consuming enemies.
Players can eat their enemies to gain additional health, with that health then being used to power special abilities.
This creates a risk-and-reward system where players must decide how best to use their resources while exploring each stage.
Collectibles Hidden Across Every Stage
Exploration will also play a major role, with every stage containing its own collection of hidden collectibles.
Players looking to fully complete GOBBLE will need to carefully explore each environment and search for every collectible hidden throughout the game’s hand-painted world.
The combination of platforming, exploration, combat and resource management is designed to encourage players to look beyond the main path and uncover the secrets hidden within each level.
A Living and Rustling World
GOBBLE also aims to give its world an unusual sense of life through its approach to sound.
Sound effects are visually represented within the game’s environments, allowing players to see leaves rustle and feel the chill in the air as they explore.
This distinctive visual approach is intended to make the game’s environments feel more alive while giving GOBBLE an identity of its own within the 2D platforming genre.
GOBBLE Platforms and Release
GOBBLE is currently scheduled to launch next year on:
- Nintendo Switch 2
- Nintendo Switch
- PlayStation 5
- PC
NIS America has yet to announce a specific release date, but the first trailer provides an early look at what players can expect from the hand-painted platforming adventure.
GOBBLE looks set to offer something rather different, combining traditional 2D platforming with enemy consumption, supernatural abilities, collectible hunting and an unusual visual interpretation of sound.
